Without fail, I have found beautiful “made in Japan” gifts at Wise Wise Tools in Roppongi Midtown. Although their assortment is not wide vs. other Japanese art and craft stores, the merchandisers have selected an amazing variety of home utilitarian items, decor, toys, and wear. A large percentage of the merchandise changes by season reflecting Japan’s culture and holidays. The store is conveniently located on the 3rd floor of Tokyo Midtown Garden Side building so you can add-on to a visit to 21-21 Design, the Suntory Museum or lunch in Midtown. A great place for one stop shopping before you head overseas, or if you have visitors in town.

Highlighting some wonderful items from my last visit.

1. Love these great Japanese work aprons. Awesome for BBQing, super heavy duty and wear very well! Bring home one of these home – guaranteed to be the only Japanese apron on the block this summer BBQ.

2. These dishes are the perfect complement to any spring or summer buffet. I love the light green and blue glazes. So soft and fresh looking.
3. Japan is the country of toilet technology so one would expect the toilet paper would be well made. This custom toilet paper in a brilliant white and red combination. The maker says they have perfect three layers of paper which is super soft and wears well! Honestly a great gift that all can use.

4. A great item for tea or coffee lovers. These canisters are handcrafted in various materials from bronze to tree bark. I have owned my tree bark container for over 20 years, and it still looks beautiful.
5. Liquor on the rocks? Not needed when you can have Fuji-san! These beautiful handcrafted glasses are a cute novelty to remember ones adventure in Japan.
6. Two great lamps that would look special in any home around the world. Great for a living room or bedroom corner. They come in a small box, so they are super easy to transport.
7. Beautiful wooden sake cups for the true sake connoisseur. If you have a loved one who collected sake cups (a great hobby) a wooden one would be a great addition. The cups are made from various woods. Pick the wood, color, shape and size you love!

8. Tea pots that complement the most modern or folksy of kitchens. You can use these teapots for everyday use or as pure decorations. A gift that will last forever.

9. Boys Day is May 5th. If you have a boy in your house, this cute set of fish is a compact, colourful and crafty way to show your spirit. Hang from your apartments or homes veranda or window to bring good luck!
10. One of my favourite items are these wonderful wooden plates. They are so smooth yet durable. Use for cheese, fruit and veggies. One or a set would be such a luxury gift from Japan.

I’m a fan of The Cover Nippon just down the hall there, absolutely gorgeous, plus there’s a small branch of Tansu-ya, the upscale second hand kimono shop as well inside.
At wise -wise last June I found hand made artisan sparklers!
