Volunteer for the 2020 Olympics – Game and City Volunteer Registration is Open!

The Summer 2020 Olympics are less than two years away,  and you now you can Volunteer to work as a Game Volunteer or City Volunteer during the 2020 Summer Olympics (July 24 – August 9, 2020) and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
(August 25 – September 6, 2020). Registration is now open until the 1st week of December, 2018 so register now. Over 100,000 volunteers are desired to make the Games a success. Game Volunteers are bring managed by the Japan Olympic Organising Committee and the City Volunteers by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. I have heard from friends who volunteered at the Nagano winter olympics that the work was really hard, but very rewarding. See details below if you are interested!

Additionally, 30-minute meetings are planned to be held before and after shifts.

Ten days or less – The lengths of activities may be limited to less than 10 days due to shift arrangements and other circumstances, depending on event schedules, activity sites, etc.

Criteria for All Volunteers – Game or City
1. You must be born before 1 April 2002.
2. Be able to participate in training.
3. Residency qualification to stay in Japan’ is a residency qualification that allows holders to stay in Japan legally. Short-term stay visas are also included in these qualifications.
4. Game Volunteer –  You must be able to contribute 10 days working 8 hour days (a few 15- 30 min breaks and one 60 min lunch break).  If you want to volunteer for the Olympics and the Paralympics your need to commit to 20 days (10+10 days). The 10 days can not be split between the olympics.
5. City Volunteers –  You must be able to contribute 5 days working 5 hour days (a few 15- 30 min breaks and one 30 min lunch break). If you want to volunteer for the Olympics and the Paralympics your need to commit to 10 days (5+5 days). The 5 days can not be split between the olympics.

  • Volunteers will be provided with a set of originally-designed Olympic and Paralympic Games volunteer uniforms (shirt, jacket, trousers, cap, shoes, bag), or City Olympic outfits. Please note that for certain items volunteers may receive more than one item.
  • Food and beverages during the volunteer activity.
  • Insurance specific to the volunteer activity.
  • Amount equivalent to travel expenses from your place of residence or accommodation to the venue (1,000 yen/day)
