1. The TY Harbor Brewery Restaurant in Shingawa has a great waterfront view of the Tennoz canal, is a popular date spot and family-friendly. Located in the Tennoz area TY Harbor opens daily from 11:30am serving traditional American cuisine with soup and salad sets and vegetarian meals as well. Their non-smoking restaurant with in-house brewed craft beers and seasonal spirits are a treat. Patrons have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Indoors is lofty and warm, outdoors refreshing. Their terrace is popular and crowded on nice weather days. Reservations are recommended.

Bills, Odaiba – located in Odaiba`s Decks Mall, Bills has an open terrace that gives a beautiful view of Tokyo Bay and the Rainbow Bridge. The large, 200 person seating restaurant is clean and family-friendly. Families can enjoy their meal and take a stroll outside in nice weather or stay-in and shop around. If you walk towards Tokyo Bay there is a nice man-made beach where kids can frolick in the sand while parents relax.

Bills doesn’t take reservations for lunch. There is usually a long wait. There are other family restaurants in the Decks Mall, but we enjoy the food at the atmosphere at Bills. Note the menu changes slightly per month/season.

With Harajuku, aux bacchanales, Tokyo patio eating, Tokyo terrace restaurants3. Aux Bacchanles (Harajuku) – Just opened in the new With Harajuku building in front of Harajuku Station. One of our favorite European coffee cafe with great crepes, pasta and light meals. They have indoor and outdoor seating where you can watch the trains and have a great view of Meiji Shrine green space. Open 11:00 – 22:00.

4. Eataly (Harajuku) – Eataly, the famous Italian casual dining chain from Italy, has just opened their third Tokyo location. The restaurant has a small retail shop offering for folks looking for core Italian ingredients. There is also a take out counter for sandwiches, desserts, and gelato. The restaurant looks like it seats about 40-50 people inside and out. The deck is lovely and has table and sofa seating. We love the menu at Eataly from the cheese platers, pasta, and pizza. Of course, you can’t leave without some gelato. Reservations recommended if you want outside seating.

Hacienda Del Cielo Terrace seating5Hacienda Del Cielo (アシエンダ デル シエロ) Daikanyama. The place is lively and beautifully put together. Lofty ceilings with floor to ceiling windows, lounge-like seating, and a beautiful and spacious rooftop terrace with unobstructed views of Tokyo. The perfect atmosphere for a night out with the girls or a fun date night, and great for lunch on their terrace with kids.

Hacienda Del Cielo is located on the 9th floor of the Mansard glass building. Enter the building from the back and take the elevator to the 9th floor. The elevator door opens to lively music and a hallway with red velvet curtains on your right, the kitchen on your left. Reception is around the bar. Child and stroller-friendly.

Hacienda Del Cielo is one of four Modern Mexican restaurants in the Human Hospitality group HUGE. HUGE runs a group of stylish restaurants which are known for high standard service with a personal touch. Their newest location, El Caliente, opened in Shinagawa in August.

6. Two Rooms Grill | Bar Omotesando If you`re looking for a romantic date night restaurant with unobstructed views of the city, an extensive wine list, delicious cocktails, great atmosphere and superb food stop in Two Rooms Grill | Bar in Omotesando.

Located on the 5th floor of Omotesando’s AO glass building, walk off the elevator and enter the impressive, open space with floor to ceiling windows, modern decor and sleek open kitchen. Their bar and lounge area offers an unobstructed view of the city looking out over Harajuku with Shinjuku Skyscrapers in the distance as well as an infinity edge water feature.

We highly recommend getting a seat on the terrace and on nice weather evenings to enjoy a cocktail and watch the sunset. Their delicious *weekend brunches* are also a local and expat favorite.

7.  Cicada (Aoyama) – A great place for a date night or special event. Cicada offers delicious Mediterranean cuisine with a romantic setting. We love the wide selection of hams, various olive oils to choose from and oh my the tapas!!! Mains are also amazing.  Expect to spend at least 5,000 yen per person for lunch and 10,000 yen for dinner including drinks. They have a great desert platter for special occasions for 3,000 yen.  Indoor and terrace seating is available. Online reservations are highly recommended.

French Kitchen (Roppongi, Tokyo) – One of our favorite locations for brunch also has a lovely outdoor eating area.  The French Kitchen offers delicious breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch buffets, and is open all day, serving classic French dishes. The restaurant features an open kitchen, a bar, an outside terrace and the “Chef’s Table”, a private dining room equipped with its own kitchen that is ideal for special dinners, private parties and company celebrations.

Ivy Place outdoor patio9. Ivy Place Daikanyama is our favorite child-friendly spot to dine. Located in the stylish Daikanyama T-Site complex, Ivy Place opens daily from 7:00 a.m. and offers a variety of breakfast choices that change with the season. Patrons have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Indoors is spacious and lovely; outdoors surrounded by greenery. Note their garden terrace is popular and crowded on nice weather days.

Ivy Place doesn`t take reservations for breakfast so get there early on the weekend. The place fills up fast! If crowded the staff will take your name and number and call you when the next table is available.

After of having a leisurely breakfast at Ivy Place we love browsing the stores in the leafy T-site complex; the Bornelund Toy store, the Tsutaya Book store, the Motovelo bike store to test out the new battery-powered assisted bicycles, and more.

10. Pizzeria-Trattoria Napule at Tokyo Midtown is known for its authentic Neapolitan pizza. They have set lunch courses and a pleasantly casual atmosphere with a multi-lingual staff. Their beautiful terrace overlooks the Midtown Garden – gorgeous during Cherry Blossom season and through Autumn. Go early for lunch to beat the rush. Reservations are recommended for dinner.

512 Cafe and Grill (Midtown, Tokyo) - Tokyo Patio Eating11. 512 Cafe and Grill (Midtown, Tokyo) – 512 Cafe and Grill is a popular fluffy pancake and coffee locations that also serves  meals such as pasta and salads. The fluffy pancakes are available all day (not just mornings). There is indoor and outdoor seating but the seating out side is super relaxing. It is tucked into the promenade that runs next to Midtown running down the garden area to 21-21 Design (one of our favorite museums). We highly recommend reservations on the weekend! 12. Spring Valley Brewery Tokyo (Daikanyama) – A great brewery with a fun relax atop here inside and out. You can enjoy your favorite beer or tasting servings until you pick your favorite. The food is also perfect for beer with meat platers and great side dishes. They also have a breakfast menu from 9:00 of eggs, bagels and more. See the menu here. This is one of our older kids’ favorite locations. Outside is also very kid friendly. Spring Valley Brewery also has locations in Kyoto and Yokohama, or you can order their beer for home delivery.  Make reservations here.

You can review both the Trunk Kitchen Breakfast menu and Brunch Menu before you head out! Expect to spend about 3,500 for a meal and drinks on average. Both menus offer both veggie and meat options. The french toast and eggs were delicious. Not a big fan of kale but if you are you can drink or eat it in the Trunk Kitchen.
