Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama Honten is the mecca for Tonkatsu lovers. If you are in the Omotesando, Harajuku or Aoyama, it is the perfect place to enjoy the traditional meal of Japanese breaded fried pork. Tonkatsu (豚カツ, とんかつ, pork cutlet), is a popular Japanese dish often eaten at home made by deep-frying a breaded pork cutlet. There are typically two main types, fillet and loin and is eaten with shredded cabbage and a slightly
sweetened brown sauce. Maisen specialises in fried pork but the they also have a fried fish filet on the menu as well as curry rice.
If you are not a meat eater, skip and head to Aoyama Flower Market, Citron or Franze and Evans for a great salad. Maisen has a lovely dining room on the second floor of their Aoyama shop, as well as counter seating on the first floor. If you don’t have time to sit down pick-up a tonkatsu sandwich at the store.

Maisen has ten smaller stores around Tokyo and Japan where you can also buy the tonkatsu and tonkatsu sandwiches to take home.
