If you have a child entering kindergarten to early elementary and are considering applying to an international school, you should check our Tokyo Internationals Schools Open Houses and Tours overview. If you are applying for the Fall of 2020 you need to visit schools in September and October, apply by mid to late Nov. All Tokyo International schools are at max capacity due to the increase in Japanese applicant and many foreign families not making job rotations out of Japan as frequently as previous years. Tokyo International Schools Open Houses & Tours
To apply to most international schools you will need the following items. If your child is presently attending a Japanese school, plan for extra time to get references and transcript translated for submission.
- Application Form
- Report cards for the past two year school years
- Recommendations: If transferring from a Japanese school one recommendation from a Japanese teacher and one from an English teacher. If transferring from another International school two recommendations
- Standardized Test Scores: If child is above 3rd grade some schools want to receive some standardized test scores such as the MAP or SSAT
- Application Fee – most international schools in Tokyo charge 10,000 – 20,000 yen per application (non-refundable)
