Tokyo Area Family Events and Activities – October 24 & 25, 2015

1. Earth Garden Autumn Craft Fair (2015) (Yoyogi Koen)

Earth craft yoyogiThe Earth Garden Craft Fair takes place four times a year, but this weekend is Autumn. I attended with Baby last year, and we both loved it! Great crafts, food and fun activities for kids.  The earthy folk of Tokyo converge on Yoyogi Park to enjoy discovering eco products, organic foods and music. There are over 200 booths that will be displaying products and services to this eco and crafty group. Very fun, and impossible to walk way empty-handed. There is also a very good Earth Craft Daymusic line-up and a hammock area to relax in-between your eating and shopping. Kids will defiantly enjoy 1-2 hours wandering the stalls with parents. Also, if you visit at night, the candle-lit stalls are very pretty to view. This will be more crowded on Sunday with the Omotesando/Harajuku Halloween Parade so try to go on Saturday. Also combing with a leisurely walk through Meiji Jingu Park would make a nice 2-3 hour outing.

2. Harajuku Halloween Parade (Omotesando/Harajuku, Omotesando Harajuku Halloween ParadeTokyo) –  This is a very fun parade to watch, so I recommend you attend the parade and then head over to the Earth Garden Festival mentioned above.  Unfortunately the deadline for official parade marching closed, but that does not mean you can’t take your kids and enjoy the sites.  Over 1,000 children will parade down Omotesando street in costumes. There are also many stores that give away candy on the day.

3. Walking in The institute of Nature Studies in Shirogane Shirogane nature park“aka Shirogane Nature Park” (Shirogane, Minato-ku) – If you do not have time to get outside of Tokyo, but want to escape for an hour or two than the park run by The Institute of Nature Studies in Shiorgane is a convenient and tranquil solution. Even though the park is located right next to a highway that cuts through Minato-ku, you will not know it. The sounds of birds and the breeze through the trees covers the city sounds. When you arrive at the park purchase your tickets at the handy ticket machine, pin your entry ribbon to your top and enter the wild. Remember only to leave footprints, and only take memories and photos. Also, return the entry ribbon since the are very eco and reuse. Also note; the park is closed on all Mondays unless a national holiday. There is no parking for cars, but a nice area for bicycles.
