TELL Lifeline Phone Counselor Training
What is TELL?
TELL is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing world-class, effective support and counseling services to Japan’s international community and helping to address the country’s growing mental health care needs.
The TELL Lifeline phone counselor training program is a 66 hour, 9-week intensive course that aims to teach you Client Centered Counseling Skills and how to use them effectively on the Lifeline. The skills are taught in a variety of manners such as presentations, discussions, role plays, journal writing, group work, and shifts on the Lifeline. Once you have passed the training period successfully, the requirement is to volunteer 10 hours a month for at least one year. The training fee is 35,000 yen.
Lifeline training is an excellent opportunity to develop your interpersonal skills in a professional work environment. Experience with Life Line Counseling is often used by social workers, psychologists and counselors in training to gain real-life experience that can complement academic studies and assist in gaining employment or entry into competitive post-graduate courses.
The Telephone Training is available in two models; Hybrid or Online
The Hybrid telephone training program involves weekly watching online video presentations over the week about 2-3 hours total attending a discussion seminar once a week and weekly role plays with a trainer done in the seminars. The Online Telephone Training Program involves weekly watching online video presentations over the week about 2-3 hours total, weekly telephone role plays with a trainer via Skype.
