Sulbing Korean Shaved Ice

Sulbing (Harajuku, Tokyo) – Korean Shaved Ice

Sulbing Korean Shaved Ice has come to town (설빙, ソルビン原宿, 東京)! If you are wondering what Sulbing is, it is a Korean Dessert Cafe most famous for unique flavors and toppings on shaved ice. Sulbing was founded by an enthusiastic Korean woman who majored in food and nutrition in college. Since opening in 2013 close to 500 chain stores have opened in Korea, and Sulbing is expanding to 16 countries over the next few years.  After just one trip to Korea, Sulbing has become a favorite, perfect hot summer day treat!

As of June 30, the first Sulbing in Japan has found a home in Harajuku. Although not all flavors have arrived in Japan, it was too tempting to resist. After a three hour wait, it was a little disappointing to know Strawberry Sulbings had already sold out. So I went for a feature Injeolmi Snowflakes Sherbet instead. The shaved milk complemented the soy flour well; it was also served with crunchy sliced almonds and chewy mini mochi, overalled the texture was well balanced. Note: Soy flour is a little powdery so be careful not to swallow too much in one bite it can stick to the back of your throat a bit.  Sulbing offers unlimited servings of sweet condensed milk to go with your ice too.

Sulbing Korean Dessert Cafe Chocolate toast For a chocolate lover, the chocolate toast is pure heaven, although for me it was a little Sulbing Korean Shaved Iceheavy.  There is a mochi layer which adds a unique taste and texture. A friend ate a Cappuccino Sulbing, which has a surprise scoop of latte ice cream in the center, her favorite part! If you’re not in the mood for toast or ice, they also offer drinks from coffee to smoothies.

Sulbing shaved ice serving size is very large therefore it can be a struggle to finish on one`s own, so bring a friend to enjoy the treat!  Premium Fresh Strawberry Snowflakes Sherbet, Grapefruit Mango Sherbet, and Real Chocolate Snowflakes Sherbet were all amazing in Korea; pretty sure they are as delicious in Japan. Can’t wait for a next visit to try them out here soon!

When in Harajuku also check out the Ukiyo-e Ōta Memorial Museum of Art or pop Sulbing Korean Shaved Ice, Tokyoby Kawaii Monster Cafe for a peek into Japanese culture.
