Shibuya MUJI Play Area and Hourly Childcare (Shibuya, Tokyo) – Mokuiku Room 6 months to 6 years

Shibuya MUJI Play Area and Hourly Childcare (木育ルーム) is a special place where parents can play with their kids or leave them to play with a caregiver for up to three hours Friday – Monday. The hourly child care is very helpful if you need spot support for a lunch meeting or some power shopping.  The childcare service is provided between 10:00 – 18:00 Friday – Monday (see more hourly childcare details below). Your child age six months to six years can stay for up to 3 hours in the hourly daycare. The nursery staff (outsourced to Pigeon) will feed and diaper your child if items are provided and explained at drop-off. Note that only eight children can be taken care by the two providers, so it is best to reserve in advance. If you reserve, show up five mins before your reservation or they will give your place away to a waiting walk-in Shibuya MUJI Play Area and Hourly Childcarecustomer.

The free play area is open to the public and is a minimalist wood area with some great toys all made from wood and sponsored by the Toy Museum in Yotsuya. The play area is open during store opening hours 10:00 – 21:00 every day of the week. The 5th floor play area also has a nursing area and bathroom.

Hi! I wanted to let you know that Muji no longer takes in foreigners for their daycare. They had an issue where they couldn’t communicate with parents of a child in their care so they changed their policy. They still have the play area that parents can stay with their kids which is great.

    • Hi Ashley, I spoke to Muji about your comment. The issue is not foreigners but a lack of ability to communicate on both sides. If people speak Japanese well (not flutnelty) your kids will be accepted.
They are worried that Muji employees will not be able to communicate in case of an emergency. Seems to make sense. If you do not speak Japanese, I would recommend you go with a Japanese speaking friend when checking in your child.
