Saru Shirogane is one of those restaurants that looks interesting from the outside, but you might not have tried it because it is slightly hidden under a highway overpass. However, Saru is not hiding anything; the staff can tell you exactly where each piece of meat or veggie originates from in Japan and about the farmer who grew it! The smoke and vegetable cooking will please any parent or kid. The highlight for kids is the design your pasta by choosing the noodle type, toppings, and source. They parents delight is the healthy and diverse menu with great side drink menu. Here is the latest menu from May 2017. Don’t let the location turn you away; your stomach will be delighted.

Saru sources their food from all over Japan to ensure they are honoring the four seasons and the natural bounty that Japanese farmers and fisherman harvest. Sara has personal relationships with the farmers they source from and has pictures of the farmers in the restaurant. The taste and prices at Saru are a great combination; most entrees run between 1,800 – 2,000 yen and appetizers are typically 900 yen. Although the food is local, most of the wine menu is from Europe.
The interior of Saru is simple with two large communal table which can probably hold 12-14 people. If you go as a small group, don’t be surprised if you sit next to others. In our opinion, this added to the fun of dining there. They also have a small outside. Baby chairs are available.
Saru also has a restaurant in Yoyogi Uehara (Fresh Seafood Bistro) and Gakugeidaigaku (Lodge Bistro).
