Orbi Yokohama is a great spot for young animal lovers. They reopened after a renewal in April 2018 and now offers more opportunities to cuddle with your favorite animals from hedgehogs to bunnies, geckos to snakes, birds, owls, cats and more. They also offer interactive learning through digital animal selfies, time capture screen where one tries to keep up with the movements of nature`s fastest creatures, nature show on their 40m wide 8m high state of the art theater, 4D movie experience and more. Orbi Indoor Wildlife & Digital World (Yokohama)
Located on the 5th floor the family friendly paradise MARK IS Minato Mirai Mall you can pop-in, pay entrance then pay for separate experiences or purchase a 1-day passport. Orbi allows same day re-entry so we recommend heading out to lunch on their restaurant floor & food court one floor down as the Orbi cafe only carries snack items (hot dogs, ice cream, bread). Show your receipt at the front desk and they will reissue arm badges.
We visited on a Monday (after Father`s Day wknd) and found long wait times as many Japanese kindergartens had school on Saturday to celebrate Father`s Day thus the holiday on Monday. Note if heading to an indoor playcenter avoid Mondays after popular Japanese school wknds (Elementary School Sports Day in May, Father`s Day in June, Kindergarten Sports Day in October, etc). If your visit coincides with a school holiday we found having one Parent wait in line the best way to optimize experience and time (e.g. one parent waits in line for one activity while another parent takes kids to different experiences like the theatre 30 min/kids` playground 10 min/earth cruising video 10 min/etc. When it`s time for the activity the parent waiting calls the other parent to bring back the kids then experience the activity together).
The Animal Garden, Animal Studio, and Cat Paradise offer opportunities to interact with real animals. Explore a forest like setting with owls, tucan, capybaras, turtles, frogs, iguana, armadillo, meerkat, snakes and tarantula at the Animal Garden (200 JPY extra to feed capybara & turtle – one cup of veggies per group); visit the Cat Paradise for 20 min of play with a number of cats; or visit the Animal Studio on the 2nd floor to hold owls, gekkos, chicks, birds, guinea pigs, bunnies and hedgehogs.
Numerous other family fun favorites are located within a 10 min walk of the Mark IS Shopping Mall includes the Anpanman Museum, the CupNoodles Museum, the Japanese Overseas Migrations Museum, the Red Brick Warehouse, the Yokohama Art Museum and the Mitsubishi Science Museum. Have fun!
