This three-day weekend offers a number of exciting October 7-9, 2017 Tokyo Weekend Family Events and Activities. Saturday calls for rain so hide out at our favorite aquariums, art & history museums, science & tech museums, or indoor playcenters.

October 7-9th is a long weekend due to the national holiday of Sports Day. Many Tokyo museums and attractions usually closed on Monday will be open but closed on Tuesday. Festivals abound so venture out and have fun. Laugh, Learn and Live! – Lauren & Sandra

Tokyo October 2017 Events1. Tokyo Art Book Fair  (Tennis Isles) – This is the 9th TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR, an art-centered book and publication festival welcoming a diverse congregation of over 350 different exhibitors featuring publishers, booksellers, galleries, artists, and more. There will be a wide variety of book-signings, lectures, and other exhibitions and events.

Tokyo October 2017 Events2.  Shimokitazawa Curry Festival 2017 Spicy Cruising – This is the 6th year of the popular Shimokitazawa Curry Festival. This year there will be over 140 vendors of curry, stamp rally (stamp collection event), and entertainment during this 10-day event.

October 7-9, 2017 Tokyo Weekend Family Events and Activities3. Nishimachi International School Food Fair 2017 (Moto Azabu, Tokyo) – One of my favorite Tokyo international community events of the year is the Nishimachi International Food Fair. This year’s Nishimachi Food Fair will take place on Saturday, October 7th. The Fair is open to the public for free. You can enjoy various beers, food from over 15 countries, and great homemade desserts. You will not go home hungry! You and the kids will also be entertained by the kids festival games (located on the main building’s roof playground), arts & crafts and live performances. Kids and adults of all ages will have a great time, and all the funds go to support the students.

4. Enjoy a Grand Tea Ceremony at Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum (Koganai) – I highly recommend visiting the Edo-Tokyo Open-air Architectural Museum to see actual homes and businesses from the 1700’s to the early 1900’s preserved in a beautiful park. Families can enjoy learning about the Japanese tea ceremony in English at the Farmhouse of the Tsunashima Family. Up to 20 attendees per ceremony. A great value for 7oo JPY. Events featuring traditional crafts will also be held.

This festival is very international sporting food booths with wine and cheese, and western desserts; workshops on table manners and how to make butter; as well as, a stamp rally and fun crafts for the kids.  If that does not make you smile the medieval dressed musical band or dancing monkey may. Tokyo October 2017 Events9. The Setagaya Bread Festival 2017 – 140 stores will participate in this popular event. Bakeries from all over the country will sell their breads, food and drink at Setagaya Park. Sales of the limited Mitsukushi three-color bread will take place as well! There will be live performances, bread university/classes, stamp rally and sales of limited goods.
