October 6-8, 2018 Tokyo Weekend Family Events and Activities

This beautiful three-day weekend offers super fun – October 6 – 8, 2018 Tokyo Weekend Family Activities. Monday, October 8th is Sports Day, a Japanese National Holiday. Many Tokyo museums and attractions usually closed on Monday will open, but will be closed on Tuesday. Festivals abound so venture out and have fun. Laugh, Learn and Live! – Lauren & Sandra

1. 30th Hokkaido Fair (Yoyogi Park) – If you love Hokkaido fresh crab, sea urchin, ramen, ice cream and fruits you will want to visit the Hokkaido Fair this weekend. Over 100 booths are set up and ready to serve you! Kids will love all the flavors and parents can also enjoy Hokkaido brews.

3. Tokyo Yosakoi (Ikebukuro, Tokyo) –  Yosakoi is a unique style of dance that originated in Japan in 1954, as a modern rendition of Awa Odori, a traditional summer dance. Yosakoi-style dancing has spread throughout much of Japan. The style of dance is highly energetic, combining traditional Japanese dance movements with modern music. This Saturday and Sunday you can see a huge competition of over 100 dance teams challenging to be crowded the best Yosakoi dance troupe. It is a huge festival with bright colors, loud music, and incredible energy. Any age person will have a great time!

4. 25th Train Festival – 25th 鉄道フェスティバル (Hibiya) – This is a great event to take your train loving kids. Ride a mini SL train, join family crafts and activities, and watch fun live shows.

5. 15th Annual Daikanyama 2018 Sarugaku Festival (Daikanyama, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) – Enjoy your Sunday or Monday Sports Day at this lively local festival. This festival is very international sporting food booths with wine and cheese, and western desserts; workshops on table manners and how to make butter; as well as, a stamp rally and fun crafts for the kids.

6. Shimokitazawa Curry Festival 2018 Curry Land – This is the 7th year of the popular Shimokitazawa Curry Festival. This year there will be  150 vendors of curry, stamp rally (stamp collection event), and entertainment during this 10-day event.

7. World Festival Yokohama – This is the 24th annual world festival in Yokohama. Enjoy food from around the world, ethnic music, dance performances and crafts. While in the area I recommend you visit some of our families favorites in Yokohama – CupNoodle MuseumOverseas Migration MuseumZoorasiaKodomo no Kuni or the Anpanman Museum.

8. The Setagaya Bread Festival 2018 – 140 stores will participate in this popular event. Bakeries from all over the country will sell their breads, food and drink at Setagaya Park. Sales of the limited Mitsukushi three-color bread will take place as well! There will be live performances, bread university/classes, stamp rally and sales of limited goods. Picnic and play at the popular Setagaya Play Park or spend the day there with our Tokyo One Day Itinerary: Setagaya Park Area with Kids.
