Located about 15 minutes by bus from Nagashima Spaland Amusement Park and Resort is the Nabana no Sato (なばなの里) flower theme park on the island of Nagashima in Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture. This park hosts one of the largest flower festivals in Japan and a spectacular winter illumination display that changes annually with about 8.5 million LED lights from late October to early May. We caught the last days of their 2015 Winter Illumination titled, “Swiss Alps and Nature” and saw a huge field transformed into an animated sea of lights, beautifully lit blue and white light tunnels, and the Island Fuji, a moving observation deck which offers views over the entire park.
The Winter 2015 “Swiss Alps and Nature” Illumination Display was located on their 8,000 square meter Hydrangea Iris Garden. It displayed a spectacular 7 min LED light show of the Swiss landscape with 10 different vivid scenes; dawn, rain, rainbow, seasons, aurora, moonlit sky and starry night to name a few. Beautifully presented and hands down a spectacular show.
During the day the Nabana no Sato flower park is filled with visitors viewing the different variety flowers that bloom each season; Roses and Tulips in Spring, Hydrangea and Irises in summer, and Dahlias and Cosmos in Autumn. Lunch at one of their Japanese or International Restaurants or relax with a cold one at their Nagashima Beer Garden. If your feet are tired walking through this enormous park soak your feet in their foot bath “Ashi Yu” with water directly from their onsen or take a ride on the Island Fuji – a moving observatory ride that takes you up 45 meters for spectacular panoramic views of the flower garden and illumination (additional charge to ride). A must see if living in or visiting Japan.
