Tokyo Antique and Flea Markets3. The Japantique Show (Shiba Koen, Prince Hotel, Minato-ku) – This annual show offers over 200 vendors of Japanese antiques. The items at this show are very high end and for serious collectors of Japanese art, coins, furniture and more. Unlike the shrine and flea market shows this one is very hard, if not impossible, to negotiate. I recommend attending just to see some of the most beautiful collectibles in one spot. A great place to learn before you start your own collection.

4. Heiwajima Antique Show (Ota-ku) – A huge three-day inside antique fair is the largest of the Tokyo Antique and Flea Markets.  Not to be missed. There are over 280 vendors that have a huge selection of Japanese, Asian and western antiques. This show only happens a few times a year, and the good stuff sells quickly. Tokyo Antique Shrine and Flea Markets5. Antique Hunting: There are five additional fairs to visit in Tokyo this weekend; Asagaya Garakuta Ichi Antique Fair (Suginami-ku, Tokyo), Kasai Shrine Antique Fair (Katsushika-ku, Tokyo), Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine Antique Fair (Koto-ku, Tokyo), Hanazono Shrine Antique Fair (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo), Arai Yakushi Antique Fair (Nakano-ku, Tokyo). BONUS: SPRING FLOWER FESTIVALS 

May 5 & 6, 2018 Tokyo Weekend Family Events and Activities - Nemophila1. View Millions of Nemophila @ Hitachi Seaside Park  – late April to May – More than 4.5 million nemophila bloom on a 3.5 hectare hill in the park, creating a beautiful contrast with the blue sky.

Kameido Teinjin Shrine, Wisterial2. Kameido Tenjin Shrine Wisteria Festival, Koto-ku, Tokyo(Late April to early May) – The Kameido Tenjin Shrine (亀戸天神社) is the number one spot in Tokyo to see magnificent cascades of hanging purple wisteria (fuji flowers). The flowers are in bloom from late April through the beginning of May at which time the shrine holds the annual Wisteria Festival.

Showa Memorial Park 昭和記念公園, Tachikawa, Tokyo - Rent Bikes, Massive Playgrounds and Water Play3. Showa Kinen Park 昭和記念公園.  Showa Memorial Park is approximately a 50-70 min trip from central Tokyo via car or train. Biking, hiking, climbing nets, bouncing on huge white soft blobs and hiding from dragons can keep the little ones busy as you view the beautiful cherry blossoms, tulips, or foliage.  You can spend the entire day at the park so pack a lunch and all your sports equipment. The park is over 150 hectors and has over 11 kilometers of bike trails. Admission is tomorrow, Friday, Apr.29th! More details –>

Access: 2 min walk from Nishi Tachikawa Station, 14 min walk from Tachikawa station. I recommend you take eh Chuo Line from Shinjuku directly to Nishi Tachikawa station which is a good spot to get a rental bike. There is a also a large parking lot at the Nishi Tachikawa park side (near the station). Cost to park is 820 JPY for the day.

Sagamihara koinobori

4. Sagamihara Koinobori Festival, Kanagawa-ken (April 29 – May 5th) – The Sagamihara Koinobori Festival (泳げ鯉のぼり相模川) has been held over 30 years to celebrate Children’s Day on May 5th. Five huge wires are hooked over the river and 1,200 koi nobori are hung to swim in the sky. The swimming koi represent the strong and good health of their children. You can get to Sagamihara in about 1.5 hours driving from central Tokyo or 2 hours on train. Location of the koinobori are here (google map). While in the area you can also visit the Sagamigawa Fureai Science Museum Aquarium Sagamihara.
