Long-term Parking at Narita Airport

Japan is the land of great customer service! One of my favorite services available in Japan is the Narita Airport long-term drop-off and pick-up parking. Valet parking at the Airport!!  With four kids we have lots of bags, so we like to drive our mini-van to and from the airport. Note: Due to COVID some services are presently transporting via van from their local parking lots (noted below).

Long-term Parking at Narita Airport

Since Narita Airport was constructed in the middle of rice fields, there is a lot of land that the locals have converted to parking lots. In fact, there are about 30+ parking companies that either provide a drop-off and pick-up service or park yourself. The cost to park with the drop-off, pick-up service for 7-10 days is more economical than my family taking the bus or train to the airport.  The cost is fairly similar for all the services since they all compete. Typically 3,000-3,500 yen for one day increasing to 12,000 for ten days. The sliding scale gets less expensive as you park your car longer. Most parking services also have an optional or sometimes free car wash service before they come pick you up (make sure to ask for the service). How does this work? Its pretty simple just follow the next few steps and enjoy your vacation!

  1. Pick a service below and call for reservations 2-4 weeks prior (they book up around New Years and Golden Week).
  2. Most services ask that you call them when you pass the Shinsui or Taiei parking service area on the main highway heading to Narita (HigashiKanto expressway). Have their phone number handy. From Shinsui or Taiei parking areas, it takes 10-15 mins to the airport.
  3. Drive to the departure area of the terminal you are leaving from (usually as forward as possible), and usually an attendant from the parking service you are using will be waiting for you.
  4. The parking service attended will check the condition of your car and ask you to sign the contract. He will then drive off with your car.
  5.  Enjoy your vacation!
  6. When you return to Japan and pass through customs (waiting for bags), call the parking service and say you are through customs. Return to  the same departure spot you met the attended when you dropped off. Depending on how fast your bags come out you may need to wait a few minutes for your car to arrive. However, we have never had to wait for more than 5 mins. Note: Do not wait for your cars on the arrival level, they only seem to use the departure level for both drop-off and pick-up.
