Join one of the Best Living Japan Tokyo Kombucha Classes to learn to brew your kombucha. This is a fun, interactive 90-minute class that includes samplings of several different flavors of kombucha. You’ll have the chance to ask all your burning questions about kombucha and learn how to make your brew at home.  All Kombucha Classes are 5,000 JPY + 8% JP consumption tax. 2018 September-December Kombucha Classes

What is Kombucha? In Japan Kombu is a seaweed, and Cha is tea, but actually the kombucha know throughout the world has no seaweed in it. Did I peak your interest?  Kombucha is a detoxifier and pro-biotic, kombucha tea has become a popular beverage in the last few years because of its health benefits and unique taste. It is a delicious and healthy fermented tea beverage that dates back over 2,000 years, and the ancient Chinese referred to it as “Immortal Health Elixir.” Made from sweetened tea that’s been fermented by a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY, a.k.a. “mother”).

This 90-minute class includes instruction on how to brew your own great tasting kombucha at home. Learn the first fermentation process, which yields a great basic kombucha, ready to drink on its own. And learn about the second fermentation process to add flavors and carbonation to your Kombucha.  You will take home an instruction sheet and a container of starter tea and baby SCOBY (culture) to start brewing at home.

Lauren Bliss Kawasaki, best living japanLauren Bliss Kawasaki is a kombucha lover, maker, and evangelist. Mom of four kids, three pets and Co-Founder of Best Living Japan. Lauren was a studio art major in undergrad but was sucked into the business world graduating with an MBA from Harvard Business School and working 20+ years in the corporate world (Hill & Knowlton, Clorox, BabyCenter.com and Amazon.com & Amazon.co.jp. She retired in 2014 to follow her creative passions and help empower other mompreneurs to identify and pursue their passions and make money. Lauren also teaches kintsugi and the Build a Business in Japan classes.

    Hi, my name is Beth Anne and I would love to come to one of your kombucha classes! My husband and I just moved to Japan about 5 months ago from the U.S and we LOVE kombucha. My parents make their own at home but I wasn’t ever able to learn 🙁 anyways… we are learning Japanese full-time right now and cannot make it to any of the sessions because our class schedule conflicts with those times. Is there any way you could offer an evening or weekend class? I know this is a big ask, but I thought I’d give it a try!! I look forward to hearing back from you.

    • Hi Beth Anne, we will announce then2019 winter kombucha classes in December. Unfortunately as moms of many children we can not offer on the weekends presently. We hope one of the dates this spring or summer will work. Kindest Lauren

    Just followed some links I found at TEN on Facebook and I’m super excited for the classes that are offered. I’m interested in your future 2019 classes as I can’t make your Dec 11 class. Also my family and I are new to Tokyo, arrived her 2.5 weeks ago from New Jersey.
