Katashina Kogen Ski Resort is perfect for young children completely new to skiing, and for parents who want to hit the slopes sans kids. They offer a popular snow kindergarten for kids from age 4, Junior Ski School for kids up to age 12, Miffy Kids Room & Day Care (ages 2 – 4), sledding and playground area for little ones, rentals and lodging. Located 2.5 hours from Tokyo you could easily make it a day trip or stay overnight.
This family-friendly resort is the only one in the Kanto region whose slopes are exclusively for skiers – snowboarders are not allowed, and the only official Miffy Ski Park in Japan. Miffy, originally named Nijntje, is a small female rabbit in a series of picture books by Dutch artist Dick Bruna. You`ll spot the cute Miffy rabbit and her friends as snow sculptures, prints on sign posts and toilet doors, and on souvenirs in the Bruna shop.
Katashina Kogen Ski Resort has 11 trails from beginner to slalom, a sledding area and the Miffy Hiroba which has playground equipment, shovels and a jumping slide castle shaped as an elephant. It`s 300 yen per person for entry Saturday, Sunday & Holidays, and free during the week. Ski rental sets and individual item rentals available are in their rental shop. Prices below.
We stayed the night in their child lodge which came with a complementary dinner and breakfast buffet at their mountain lodge restaurant, and a snow mobile escort from the base of the resort to the lodges. Your kids will love it.
