Kasai Rinkai Park (葛西臨海公園) is a huge expansive park situated along Tokyo Bay. It houses the Tokyo Sea Life Aquarium, bird sanctuary, 117m tall ferris wheel, bbq grounds, biking and walking paths, a Japanese garden, small playground and plum and cherry blossom paths.
One side of the park houses the ferris wheel and the other the Tokyo Sea Life Aquarium where you can study sharks, eagle rays, and penguins. Also in the area is a food booth and access to the park train. Sit back on the park train, take in the views and listen to the history of the park as well as notable landmarks. The train will take you around the entire park (25 minutes) or you can push a button on the frame and get off at any location. Adults (JHS and older) 300 JPY; 3 years to Elementary school age 150 JPY; 70 years and older 150 JPY.
The most prominent landmark of Kasai Rinkai Koen is their 117m tall Diamond and Flower ferris wheel that is illuminated at night. The ferris wheel gives views of Tokyo Disney, Sky Tree and on a clear day Mount Fuji. 700 JPY for 3 years and older (17 minute rotation).
Along with their expansive open area – great for running around, flying kites or just relaxing, they have a small enclosed play area open from 9am-4pm for kids up to 7 years but I think best for toddlers. They have a small slide, multiple spring riders, play wall and netting to climb and jump on. Waku Waku playground is located up the hill from the ferris wheel and Japanese Garden.
If visiting Kasai Rinkai Park we highly recommend bringing a bike, tent, picnic gear and/or kite. The park has various events on wknds and food trucks in summer. Combine your visit with a trip to the Tokyo Subway Museum or the Yumenoshima Botanical Garden. An easy drive or train ride from central Tokyo, or have a true adventure and take a water taxi.
