Kandu, #8 on our list of Top Theme Parks in Japan, is an indoor theme park similar to Tokyo`s Kidzania where kids aged 3 – 16 years can work a variety of jobs and get paid for them. Some of the jobs include a JAL Airlines pilot, JAXA Space engineer, architect, takoyaki chef, soup maker, cold stone ice cream maker, police officer, fashion model, dancer and more. Located less than an hour drive from central Tokyo it’s a nice alternative to Kidzania.
Kandu Indoor Theme Park (Chiba) – Tips to Make the Most Out of Your Visit
Some notable differences between Kandu and Kidzania are lower pricing and hours (4 hour shift versus 6 hours at Kidzania), ample seating, electronic reservation machines and restaurant in the facility, however there are less activities to select from (30 jobs versus 90 at Kidzania). We think Kandu is suited for younger kids.
Their electronic reservation system has been updated. Select a job at one of the four bilingual (Japanese/English) reservation machines in the park, select the reservation time and press よやく(reserve). Then scan your Kandu QR code card at reader and reservation ticket will print out for you to hold until your activity begins. You can make another reservation 10-20 min after you’ve reserved an activity (reservation interval times vary depending on the day).
PROS:
– Less crowded than Kidzania
– Tables and ample seating located throughout the facility to keep coats and other non-valuables.
– Electronic reservation system. You can reserve jobs in 10-20 min increments.
– You can use your Kandu bills for face painting, manicure, magic show, seasonal workshops or purchase items in their gift shop.
– Each person is given a 500 yen voucher that can be used at the restaurant, to make pizza, to use for photos or the gift shop.
– There is a small toddler area (for kids 3 years and younger) in the center of the park. Great for parents with little ones.
– A restaurant is located in Kandu so you can order food and it will be delivered to your table. The restaurant serves rice dishes, pizza, pastas, finger foods, juices and alcohol.
– Located in the Aeon Makuhari Mall with food court, outdoor play space, shops and TONDEMI Space Athletic Indoor Place Space.
- NOTE: Kids must understand Japanese to perform duties
