Here are our recommended June 3 & 4, 2017 Tokyo Weekend Family Events and Activities. It will be a beautiful weekend with lower temps and a variety of fun events; a free outdoor movie, toy show and festivals. Get out and play! Laugh, learn and Live! ~Best Living Japan Moms

1.Shinagawa Open Theater vol.4 (Konan, Shinagawa-ku – This Saturday night kick-off the summer withShinagawa Open Theater a free outdoor movie for entire family. Shinagawa Season Terrace will host the movie The Mummy (1999, PG-13) from 19:29 – 21:30. The movie will be in Japanese but with English sub-titles. From noon on Sunday to 22:00 there will also be food and beverage trucks on hard to provide yummies for the entire day. Grab a blanket and bring a picnic dinner to enjoy the movie this Saturday night. It is recommended to arrive before 18:00 to secure seating on the lawn. Here is a video on YouTube from the Jurrasic Park showing in April which will give you a good idea of the environment during the day event and then movie time.  **Will be postponed to Sunday, June 4th if rain on the 3rd.

2. Oktoberfest in Hibiya Park (Hibiya) – The annual two week Hibiya Park Oktoberfest held each spring. Parents can enjoy the beverages while little ones enjoy the sausages pretzels, and dancing. Hibiya Park also is filled with beautiful roses this time of year so visiting the oldest Western designed garden in Japan.

Enjoy authentic German dances, performances, food and beer.

3. Suga-jinja Reitaisai 須賀神社例大祭 (Shinjuku-ku) – This annual festival runs from Friday, June 2nd to Monday, June 5th. On Saturday the 3rd you can see taiko drums from 17:30 and the dragon dance at 18:00. On Sunday the 4th, the mikoshi (portable Shinto shrine) is paraded through the neighborhood starting from the shrine at 12:30 and returning around 16:30.

4. Tokyo Toy Show 2017 (Ariake) – The annual toy show open to the public this weekend is a great place to play and explore new toys in the market and once releasing this holiday season. You can spend a few hours or all day exploring all of the Japanese and International toy brand booths and exhibits. Some companies even offer hands-on workshops and stage shows. My kids love this show and we attend every year. Hope to see you there.

June 3 & 4, 2017 Tokyo Weekend Family Events and Activities5. Eco Life Fair 2017 (Yoyogi Park) – “Love the Earth. Look forward to the future.” This fair is held by the Ministry of the Environment. The goal of the fair is to help families understand their daily impact on the environment and learn tips on how to reduce their carbon footprint. All families should be focused on this topic. If you do have time this weekend this would be a great stop on a sunny day outing. Great food, workshops and entertainment.

Spring Summer 2017 Tokyo Museum Exhibits for Families6. ENDING THIS WEEKEND === 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT  “ATHLETE” (Midtown, Roppongi) This is the last weekend to visit this sports exhibit perfect for teen athletes and science lovers. In this exhibition, in addition to showcasing the movements and characteristics of the bodies of athletes through video footage and photographs, we explore the experience of controlling sensation of the body and mind, the latest technologies to analyze data as it relates to tactics, and the sports gear and other equipment that acts as an extension of the human body. Visitors get a sense of the diverse elements that go into making a person an athlete and decipher the human potential from a design perspective.
