Ikedayama Park & Japanese Garden (Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo)

ikedayama parkIkedayama Park (池田山公園) is a beautiful hidden gem located between Shirokanedai and Gotanda Stations. Nestled in the quiet residential neighborhood of Shinagawa, the Japanese Garden is beautifully maintained and holds a sizeable pond with large, colorful Koi fish. Built on a hill there are multiple levels to the garden where visitors can view the lush garden from above the tree tops or from below. The garden also provides a resting area at the top of the hill for visitors to relax and take in the surroundings.

We visited Sunday afternoon and were impressed by the beauty; the leaves had just started to change color, we heard birds chirping and the faint flow of water from the small, stone waterfall, and to our delight large, colorful koi swam up to our feet searching for food. There were about a handful of visitors there with us. It was tranquil. The perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful and peaceful surroundings and a great location for family photos. Not recommended for beginner walkers and visitors with strollers or wheel chairs.

ikedayama parkIkedayama Park holds 18 different varieties of plants and fruit trees that include Sakura (Cherry Blossoms), Kaki (Persimmon), Kuri (Japanese Chestnut), zakuro (pomegranate), hydrangeas and azaleas to name a few. Beautiful year round with seasonal flowers and lush green.
