Gokokuji Temple and Higo Hoskawa Garden English Guided Tour

Bunkyo City International Exchange Group is offering a free English guided tour of Gokokuji Temple, Higo Hosakawa Garden and Edogawa Park on Sunday, March 25th from 9:45am to 12:30pm  (Sign up by Thursday, March 22nd). Gokoku-ji Temple (護国寺) is a Shingon Buddhist temple in Tokyo’s Bunkyo Ward. The temple was built in 1681 by the 5th Edo Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. The temple`s main hall is the largest wooden building existing in Tokyo to date.

Higo Hoskawa Garden, formally called Shin-Edogawa Garden, is a strolling garden with ponds and hills and Japanese style house belonging to the Kumamoto Lord. After visiting the garden the group will enjoy cherry blossom viewing along the Kanda River in Edogawa Park.

  1. Each tour takes about two hours. You will be spending a lot of time walking, so it is important to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Please bring sufficient drinking water with you.
  2. Please refrain from posting personal information or images, such as the names and photographs of the tour guides or other tour participants, on websites or in other media without obtaining prior consent of the persons concerned.
  3. Generally speaking, tours will not be cancelled due to inclement weather. However, they may be cancelled if safety or security concerns warrant. If a cancellation occurs, the tour organizers will try to contact all scheduled participants.” – Bunkyo City Office
