Dominique Ansel Bakery (Omotesando, Tokyo) – Best Hot Chocolate in Tokyo

*** Dominique Ansel Bakery CLOSED *** Today was a chilly day in Tokyo with winds, gray skies and a sober mood so I headed to Dominique Ansel Bakery Tokyo (ドミニクアンセルベーカリートウキョウ) to enjoy a comforting hot chocolate. Dominique Ansel Bakery in Omotesando opened in June 2016 following the first store in SoHo Dominique Ansel Bakery TokyoNew York which opened in November 2011. Dominique Ansel is famous for having invented the Cronut®, Cookie Shot, DKA (Dominique’s Kouign Amann), Frozen S’mores, and many other pastries. The baked goods are quite delicious but what brings Dominique Ansel Bakery Tokyome back time and time again is the hot chocolate.

The Bakery has two floors with counter purchases to be eaten on the 1st floor and a cafe on the second floor. Reservations are needed for the 2nd floor cafe. The first floor is very child-friendly with large comfy sofas and easy access bathrooms. One of the highlights of the Hot Chocolate is the blossoming marshmallow flower placed on top. My daughter was thrilled to watch it unfold and then thoroughly enjoy the gooey marshmallow. We also found the Cronut flaky and light, although we could not finish it due to size (better considering it
probably had 1,500 kcal). The family next to us ordered the Frozen S’more on a stick which seemed to be a family thriller.

  1. Thanks for reviewing this bakery. We’ve been wanting to check it out since it opened. Love the hot cocoa addition, can’t wait to go.
