City Wave Tokyo (Shinagawa)

City Wave Tokyo (Shinagawa, Tokyo))

Stay cool and get wet at City Wave Tokyo in Ota-ku!! Yep, in the middle of Tokyo you can learn to surf before you hit the waves in Chiba this summer. My two youngest children took a 50 min lesson, and both were surfing alone by the end of the experience. Really did not think my 7-year-old was going to be able to surf alone but she did it! Huge confidence builder for her, and proud moment for mommy! Really a cool experience that kids age 6 years and older can enjoy. Reservations and payment must be made online; no cash or cards are accepted at the wave center. City Wave Tokyo is located in the City Wave Tokyo (Shinagawa)Sporu Shinagawa Oimachi facility right behind Oimachi Station. City Wave Tokyo is open year-round.  As my kids have grown, they want moreCity Wave Tokyo (Shinagawa) thrilling activities.

City Wave Tokyo (Shinagawa)

City Wave is a huge pool which has a power generated flow of water and a wave. Group lessons are 50 mins long and have up to eight people.
Everyone gets about 5-7 rides during the 50 mins. When you sign-up you choose beginner, intermediate, advance or kid. My two kids were with all adults, but it did not seem to matter. The staff is comprised of very talented surfers who were awesome and seemed to work well with everyone regardless of age. Being a surfing instructor must be petty cool!

Helmets and surfboards are included in the lesson fee. For the first try everyone is helped onto their boards and then move one by one thru the water with a metal pole. The pole is used to help you gain your balance and sea legs. Don’t get comfortable because by the second run the pole is gone. Second – fourth run most people were holding the instructor’s hands. By the end runs, most students were able to gain their balance and surf alone. The hardest part for my youngest was getting swept over the wave and under the water until she popped up on the back end of the pool. Surfing is not a good activity for kids who don’t like waves and dislike being underwater.
