Blue Bottle Coffee (ブルーボトルコーヒー) opened their newest shop in Nakameguro. They now have stores in nine Tokyo locations and don’t seem to be slowing down – Sangenjaya, Meguro, Nakameguro, Shinagawa, Roppongi, Aoyama, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro and their 1st was Kiyosumi Fukugawa (where they also roast). I`m thrilled to have a neighborhood coffee shop that serves great coffee and opens from 8:00 daily. Blue Bottle started in Oakland California in 2002 and has coffee shops on the East and West coasts of America, and now five cafes in Tokyo. Their sixth location opening in Shinagawa soon. One of the main goals of the company is never to make coffee for roasted beans over 48 hours old – quality first.
The new Nakameguro cafe is located in a former electric-parts factory which has been transformed to a small first floor cafe, tasting room and workshop. The cafe has an industrial feel with high ceilings, concrete floors and linden wood and steel interior. I love the green plants and view of the workshop located behind the baristas. The cafe offers pour-over and espresso service with a small selection of pastries to eat in or take out. The cafe holds two tables and a standing table located near the center of the space. There is also outdoor seating which faces the cafe as well as bench seating facing Komazawa street.
The second and third floor houses an office space for the Blue Bottle Coffee teams from Japan and the U.S. to collaborate and exchange ideas. The workshop area hosts community gatherings and seminars on coffee. Follow their Facebook page for community workshops.
