Q2. How do I pay for classes?
A2. Full payment is necessary to secure your place. You can make payment from each classes’ page. See all classes here. Payment can be made using PayPal, Stripe Credit Card Payment (Visa, MasterCard and Amex) or Best Living Japan voucher. Lean more about vouchers here.
Q3. Is there a way to get a discount?
A3. Yes, you can buy a set of voucher tickets and save 2,500 yen. You also can get a discount by signing up for two or more people to the same class in one check-out process. By doing so you will receive 10% off your total value. For example if the class is 15,000 yen X 2 people the cost would normally be 30,000 yen, but you will pay 27,000 yen (before tax).
Q4. How do I buy vouchers for classes?
A4. Best Living Japan sells sets of voucher numbers that can be used for class payment. Vouchers are in sets of 13 valued at 30,000 JPY (a 2,500 JPY saving). More details are here.
Q5. Can we have a private class and get a discount?
A5. Yes, private classes with 8 or more people can be arranged for any subject we offer and we can provide a discount. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q6. In the cooking classes, will I be participating or just watching the teacher prepare the food?
A6. All of our classes are hands-on. The teacher will explain the recipes and prepare quickly, then students break into small teams (usually 2-4 people) and prepare each recipe at workstations. About the Best Living Studio.
Q7. What language are the classes conducted in?
A7. All classes are in English, unless noted.
Q8. Do I need to bring anything to class with me?
A8. We will provide all materials needed for each class, unless notified via email before the class. **It is highly recommended that you also take care to wear comfortable, closed toed rubber soled shoes in the interest of your safety. Please no flip flops**
Q9. What can I expect during a typical class?
A9. Most classes last approximately 2-3 hours. Classes are very hands-on and high participation. Please plan to arrive no earlier than 5 minutes prior to the start time of your class in order to check in.
Q10. Is there a waiting list if the class I want to join is full?
A10. If you’d like to be placed on the waiting list for a full class, please email us at email@example.com and we will place you on the list. If space becomes available we will notify waiting list names in the order they were placed on the list.
Q11. Do you send out reminders before a class I’m signed up for?
A11. Unfortunately that would be impossible for us to do – please mark your calendar accordingly!
Q12. What is your cancellation policy for classes?
Classes and event reservations are just like purchasing theater tickets. We staff and make purchases on your behalf in advance of the class regardless of your actual attendance. We also have limited space which makes it important for us to have an exact guest count since we often have to turn away potential students when classes fill.
Because we are a 100% reservation based business, we have to adhere to a very specific policy regarding cancellation. Please carefully review this policy below:
- If you cancel up to 3 days (72 hours) prior to your class, you can book another class.
- Within 72 hours prior to your class we CANNOT ISSUE REFUNDS OR CREDIT under any circumstances as we have very limited space available and require advanced reservations for all classes.
- In the event that we have a waiting list and can fill your space we may issue credit to you, but it is not a guarantee that we will be able to do so.
- Don’t forget – you can always send someone in your place if you can’t make it, simply let us know and we will make an adjustment to your reservation.
We reserve the right to cancel any class, at any time, for any reason. We make every effort to give as much advanced notice as possible in the rare event we have to cancel a class. Your payment will be refunded in full or you may request credit or transfer of payment to another class.
If you are signed up for a series of classes, please note that no refunds will be given after the series has begun, regardless of circumstance because space is limited in these series.
We reserve the right to cancel a class at any time due to insufficient enrollment, illness or in case of an emergency. Cancelled classes may be rescheduled, or your payment can be transferred towards the purchase of a different class.
We reserve the right to make substitutions for anything on our menu at any time. The highly perishable and seasonal nature of food and wine makes it difficult to stay within the confines of a menu posted well in advance. Our staff makes every effort to make the experience as enjoyable as possible for you and will occasionally make adequate substitutions in that pursuit.
If you have dietary restrictions, allergies or other important needs that should be brought to our attention, please make us aware of those in advance of your class so that we can take proper action to make sure our chefs are aware of your needs. We can not make substitutions for you on the day of your class.
We ask that cell phones be turned off during class to keep distractions to a minimum. Also, we cannot guarantee the safety of your valuables while you are cooking with us so please don’t bring any!
Babies and small children are not allowed to attend classes that are not specifically designated for children or teens. Our regular cooking classes are intended for those that are 16 years of age or older, although younger students may attend certain classes and workshops with a parent.
