August 2017 Tokyo Top Activities and Events6. Bolivia Festival (Shiba Park, Minato-ku) – The Bolivia Festival will be held for the 2nd time on Sunday, August 13th. The festival will help to introduce the public to the country of Bolivia in South America through music, food, and dance. Great way to introduce your family to the country and people of Bolivia. A small event but sure to liven-up a Mid-August weekend.  Here is the promotional video from the organizers.   The park also has a very nice playground or little ones. We also recommend you investigate Zōjō-ji Temple and the other areas of the great Shiba Park. There are many restaurants and a Starbucks near the Daimon Gate that are family friendly. Over 17,000 people are expected to attend so it will be fun, hot and exciting.  I would recommend making a day of it and check out the Overseas Migration Museum and the Cup Noodles Museum. August 2017 Tokyo Top Activities and Events9. Asakusa Samba Matsuri (浅草サンバ) (Asakusa) –  If you love Samba, this is the place to be Saturday, August 26th! Brazil and Japan are deeply intertwined since millions of Japanese migrated to Brazil in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. If you ever want to learn more about Japan migration history check out the Japan Overseas Migration Museum in Yokohama. The Asakusa Samba Matsuri is celebrating the 36th year and is one of the biggest summer festivals in Japan. Over one half a million people come to see 16 teams compete for the grand award. The parade of samba dancers, floats and drummers travel down Kaminarimon Dori in front of the huge Asakusa shrine gate (Kaminarimon Gate).  I find the best place to access and view is closer to Tawaramachi Station on the Ginza Line.
