Arakawa Amusement Park is one stop amusement rides, a petting zoo and in the summer a water splash river. It is only 100 yen to enter the park. Arakawa Amusement Park opened in 1950 and is the only ward-operated amusement park in Tokyo.

We recommend families to spend 3- 5 hours enjoying rides (including a Ferris Wheel, Merry Go Round, Tea Cups, Overhead Cycle and mini train), the animal plaza petting zoo, the water park and a fishing moat. To get to the park ride the Arakawa Toden streetcar which is one of last remaining streetcars in Japan. If you want to check out other retro Japan amusement parks we recommend Hanayashiki Amusement Park in Asakusa.

The park was originally a villa for the feudal lord, Todo Takatora. In the late 1800, the property became a brick factory which was destroyed in WWII. In the 1950s the factory property was redeveloped into the Arakawa Amusement Park.
The entrance fee is 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for children which is a value since you can visit the petting zoo and the splash park for that fee. For 1400 yen an adult and child can enter together and they receive 12 tickets. Each ride is one ticket for children and two for adults. If you child is under age five you, a parent must ride with the children. Extra tickets can be purchased as needed.
The Petting Zoo has a few sheep, goats, rabbits and guinea pigs. Little ones can also view a cow, a capybara (which my daughter thought was a HUGE chipmunk :-), some Japanese monkeys, and a few other animals. You can buy small cups of chopped fruits and veggies to feed the animals. The staff (volunteers) are on hand in the zoo area to help any questions about animals.
There is a picnic area to enjoy your obento and also a small restaurant to buy food.
