1. Outdoor Day Japan 2019, Yoyogi Koen – This weekend is the Outdoor Day in Yoyogi event space (between the NHK studios and the Park). Take your kids and explore camping tents, a climbing tower, live performances, RVs and lots of other fun outdoor activities and workshops. This event will definitely get you thinking about where to go camping this summer in Japan.

2. The 12th African Festival (Yokohama) –  “A festival organized to bridge the cultural difference between Africa and Japan” is being held at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse this weekend. Experience traditional cultural drumming and dancing, an African games corner, a musical instrument workshop, African cuisine & drink, and the African art and crafts market. While in the area I recommend you visit some of our families favorites in Yokohama – CupNoodle Museum, Cosmo World Amusement ParkOverseas Migration MuseumOrbi Indoor Wildlife & Digital WorldZoorasiaKodomo no Kuni, or the Anpanman Museum.

Tokyo Junk Show, Antiques and collectibles3. 61st Annual Junk Show (Chiyoda-ku) – Over 100 global vendors set up their stalls at the Japan Science Museum near the Imperial Palace. The merchandise is probably the most diverse I have seen in Japan from toys to home goods. If you are a toy collector, this is a good place to shop. Cost is 1,000 JPY for adult entry (sr. high and above). For other antique markets this weekend check here.

What is for sale: 100 global vendors, heavily oriented to toys and collectibles

4. Visit Showa Memorial Park, Tachikawa, Tokyo  – late March through June for all types of flowers – Showa Memorial Park has more than 1,500 cherry trees, including 200 or so Somei Yoshina cherry trees, 220,000 tulips of 13 varieties, 1.8 million poppies, and dainty blue nemophila flowers blossom in the Spring. You can spend the entire day at the park so pack a lunch and all your sports equipment. Access: 2 min walk from Nishi Tachikawa Station, 14 min walk from Tachikawa station. I recommend you take eh Chuo Line from Shinjuku directly to Nishi Tachikawa station which is a good spot to get a rental bike. There is a also a large parking lot at the Nishi Tachikawa park side (near the station)

5Roppongi Hills Spring Festival 2019, Minato-ku, Tokyo (April 5 – 7th) –  Enjoy cherry blooms, rent a kimono, live performance, childrens` crafts, entertainment and food. The annual Roppongi Hills Spring festival is always family friendly!

6. The Tokyo American Clubs Women’s group is holding their annual Nearly New Sales (flea market) on Friday, April 5th. Also, the Women’s Group will be accepting donations of clean clothes and other good-quality household items to support the Salvation Army’s mission of helping families in need in the Tokyo area. Donated items will be sold at the Salvation Army Charity Bazaar. Kanamara Matsuri at Kawasaki7. Kanamara Matsuri,  Kanagawa-ken (Sunday, April 7th)  – Aka the Penis Festival (sorry parents) – Kanamara Matsuri is translated as the “Festival of the Steel Phallus”, aka the penis festival. The Shrine the festival is held at is well known to pray for prosperity, easy childbirth, solid marriages, and fertility.
