Nemophilia @ Hitachi Seaside Park 1. View Millions of Nemophila @ Hitachi Seaside Park  – late April to May – More than 4.5 million nemophila bloom on a 3.5 hectare hill in the park, creating a beautiful contrast with the blue sky.

Kameido Teinjin Shrine, Wisterial2. Kameido Tenjin Shrine Wisteria Festival, Koto-ku, Tokyo(Late April to early May) – The Kameido Tenjin Shrine (亀戸天神社) is the number one spot in Tokyo to see magnificent cascades of hanging purple wisteria (fuji flowers). The flowers are in bloom from late April through the beginning of May at which time the shrine holds the annual Wisteria Festival.

Showa Memorial Park 昭和記念公園, Tachikawa, Tokyo - Rent Bikes, Massive Playgrounds and Water Play3. Showa Kinen Park 昭和記念公園.  Showa Memorial Park is approximately a 50-70 min trip from central Tokyo via car or train. Biking, hiking, climbing nets, bouncing on huge white soft blobs and hiding from dragons can keep the little ones busy as you view the beautiful cherry blossoms, tulips, or foliage.  You can spend the entire day at the park so pack a lunch and all your sports equipment. The park is over 150 hectors and has over 11 kilometers of bike trails. Admission is tomorrow, Friday, Apr.29th! More details –>

Showa Kinen Park 昭和記念公園, Tachikawa, Tokyo - Rent Bikes, Massive Playgrounds and Water PlayCost to enter park: Adults (15 – 64) 410 JPY,  seniors (65+) 210 JPY, children (6 – 14 years) 80 JPY; infants (0 – 5) free
Access: 2 min walk from Nishi Tachikawa Station, 14 min walk from Tachikawa station. I recommend you take eh Chuo Line from Shinjuku directly to Nishi Tachikawa station which is a good spot to get a rental bike. There is a also a large parking lot at the Nishi Tachikawa park side (near the station). Cost to park is 820 JPY for the day.

Sagamihara koinobori

4. Sagamihara Koinobori Festival, Kanagawa-ken (April 29 – May 5th) – The Sagamihara Koinobori Festival (泳げ鯉のぼり相模川) has been held over 30 years to celebrate Children’s Day on May 5th. Five huge wires are hooked over the river and 1,200 koi nobori are hung to swim in the sky. The swimming koi represent the strong and good health of their children. You can get to Sagamihara in about 1.5 hours driving from central Tokyo or 2 hours on train. Location of the koinobori are here (google map). While in the area you can also visit the Sagamigawa Fureai Science Museum Aquarium Sagamihara.

5. The 42nd Japan Hobby Show 2018 (Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo) – From today until Saturday, April 28th you can enjoy over 850 hobby and arts & crafts exhibitors and retailers.  Almost every hobby is included such as knitting, beading, scrapbooking, painting vendors, play models and more. On Saturday, there will also be kids craft workshops including accessory making and wooden toy construction.

6. UN Farmers Market – Gourmet Street Food vol 5 and Yoga. Pick up some seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as Organic and local fare. While in the area visit our Tokyo One Day Itinerary with Kids – Shibuya, Harajuku, Omotesando, and Aoyama areas.

Walk or Bike the Rainbow Bridge (Minato-ku)  – Fun activity on a warm spring day is to walk or bike across the Rainbow bridge and then enjoy the day in Odaiba. You can also put your bikes on the Waterbus to come back to the Hamatsucho area. The viewTokyo Rainbow Bridge Bike, Best Living Japan is wonderful, and there is so much to do in Odaiba – Miraikan, Legoland, Sony ExploraScience.
