Nambo Discovery Camp (Chiba)Nanbo Discovery Camp (Chiba)

Nanbo Discovery Camp is the longest-running English language residential camp in Japan. Started in 1999, this summer we will be celebrating our 22th anniversary. We are located 200 meters from the ocean in Chikura, Chiba Prefecture, about two hours by car from Tokyo. Our campers are usually from seven through 14 years of age.

Our present camp facility, opened in June, 2007, is located on 4,000 tsubo of land. It was designed and built specifically to meet our needs, including our activity field, outdoor kitchen, covered eating area, Discovery Room, bunkrooms and more. We are a small camp with a maximum of 28 children at each of our seven sessions. Our campers enjoy an adventure of swimming, snorkeling, cycling, hiking, exploration and discovery, science, arts and crafts, sports, and much more. Whether they are observing life in a tide pool, collecting shells, cycling over the next hill, helping with meal service, journal writing, or boogie boarding at the beach, all campers will have an active, positive, educational and fun summer camp adventure.

Nambo Discovery Camp (Chiba)

Equally important, our campers will be building confidence and relationships, overcoming challenges and working together in a positive camp environment. The interaction between campers, our counselors-in-training (CIT’s), and our incredible Nanbo Discovery Camp counselor staff is the most meaningful part of our program. Journal writing and drawing are daily activities that allow us to reflect on the day through discussion, writing and sketching. Campers will bring their journals and artwork home at the end of camp.

We are up early every morning, starting the day with a hike, beach cleanup, capture the flag, or more before breakfast. Daily activities might include a trip to the beach or pool, arts and crafts, cycling, group games on the activity field and much more. The day ends with activities around the campfire, in the Discovery Room, or on a night hike. Campers sleep in one of four bunkrooms along with one of our counselors.

Nambo Discovery Camp (Chiba)This summer we have scheduled seven sessions beginning on July 5 and ending on August 26. Our camp sessions are either 6-days/5-nights or 5-days/4-nights (mini camp). Please see website for schedule – www.discoverjapan.co.jp.

Re: COVID-19

While we are trying hard to be positive about the 2020 summer season it is impossible to predict what the situation will be like in early July. We are currently planning for an incredible summer of outdoor adventure, swimming, and much more. Having said that, the health, safety and well-being of our campers and staff have the highest priority. Health and cleanliness have always been at the foundation of everything we do. We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation very carefully.

While we are committed to providing an incredible camp experience for your children this summer, sometimes decisions must be made that are out of our control. If we find that it is necessary to cancel summer camp for this season, we will, of course, refund 100% of all camp fees paid to us. Please contact us for more information regarding our response to COVID-19.
