100 Yen Store Craft – Holiday Door Hanging

100 Yen Store Craft - Holiday Door Hanging Best Living JapanDear Curious and Creative, I love 100 yen stores in Japan. Most have a whole wall of holiday decorations for sale this time of year.  Here are instructions on how to make a holiday door hanging.  Yesterday, I picked up some items to make this holiday door hanging for our front door. The entire project cost between 500-700 yen depending on the amount of decorations you want to add to the evergreens (mini Christmas trees). The project takes about 15-30 minutes. Have fun with this simple project today! 100 Yen Store Craft – Holiday Door Hanging

How to make a 100 yen store craft holiday door hanging

Step 1

Step 1. Cut about 20 cms of wire and wrap the mini Christmas tree to one side of the hanger. The base of the Christmas tree should be attached to the base of the hook on the hanger (top of tree pointing down). If the tree has a plastic base remove by pulling off (usually easy to do) or cut off before attaching to the hanger. Weave the wire through the Christmas tree branches each time looping around the hanger. When you loop the tree and hanger make sure you loop between branches so not to see wire.  Should look like this when first tree is attached to the hanger.

Step 2

Step 2. Once the first mini Christmas tree is attached, attach next mini tree to other side of the hanger to make sure you have an even look.  Each tree will take 10-20 cms of wire to attach.  If you want a thicker looking door hanging you can attach two mini trees on each side of the hanger. That is what I did to get the final project looks above.

Step 3

Step 3. Once you have attached 2-4 mini Christmas trees securely to the hanger. Take the bottom of the hanger and bend it up to the top, and attach with wire to the top part of hanger. This will provide more stability and also hide the hanger. Bend the top of the hanger hook down to hide.

Step 4

Step 4. The base of the door hanging is done. Now all you have to do is decorate with a bow, garland or holiday balls or other ornaments. All available at your local 100 yen store.  This door hanging is very light weight so you can use a heavy duct tape or packing take to attach to your door with the hanger hook on the back.

Enjoy the project and Happy Holidays! Please let me know below if you have any questions. Also would love to see your final projects so send me a photo!
