Sanpo in the Park, Animal Walk,Weekend May 21 & 22, 2016Sanpo in the Park 2016 (Yoyogi Park) – Take your family and pet to the 5th annual Sanpo in the Park charity walk organised by Animal Walk Tokyo!   Over the past five years, Sanpo in the Park has helped local charities raise over 2.2M yen.  That’s equivalent to more than 56,000 bowls of food!  This year’s walk is to support ALMA and Dog Shelter.  100% of your 2,000 yen entry fee will be split between the two groups. Join this exciting event with music, adoptable pups, food & fun.

Minato-ku Eco Fair, Best Living Japan,Weekend May 21 & 22, 20162. Minato-ku Eco Life Fair (Minami Azabu, Minato-ku) – Minato-ku is holding their annual Eco Life Fair on Sunday, May 22nd in Arisagawa Park. The goal of the fair is to increase people’s awareness and preservation of energy, life and earth.  The Fair will be held in the upper ground area and is split into three zones – Energy, Living Creatures, Recycle. There will be many groups and exhibits about Eco.  There are also recycled bicycles and furniture for sale. We attended last year and enjoyed the crafts and exhibits. Come to learn and be Eco!

Stoller and wheelchair friendly. You can also take your dog, but keep on a short leash.


Weekend May 21 & 22, 2016, Yamathon3. Yamathon (around Tokyo) – If you did not join a team to participate in the Yamathon this Saturday, May 21st, you can still visit any Yamanote station and cheer. The Yamathon is a fundraising challenge where teams of three or four people compete to walk or run through Tokyo, visiting all 29 stations of the famous JR Yamanote train line in under 12 hours.  The start and finish are near Tokyo station. Start is 8:00. 100% of the teams registration fee goes to NADIA, an international volunteers group focusing on helping the recovery of Ishinomaki in Miyagi prefecture, after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake in March 2011. Teams can take any course and any transport as long as they visit all 20 stations and have a picture of the entire team in front of each station.  I will definitely be visiting a few stations tomorrow to cheer!  If you are interested in participating next year Yamathon details are here.

4.  Take A Boat Ride On The Sumida River (Hamatsucho <-> Asakusa) – This weekend will be beautiful weather to take  Tokyo Family Weekend Activities for June 20 & 21, 2015a Tokyo river cruise from Hamatsucho Hinode Pier to Asakusa. After arriving in Asakusa tour the shrines and have a nice lunch. The boat cruise is 40 mins, and you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee or beer from the onboard cafe. The trip one way is only 780 yen per adult, and kids are half price. Between 10:00 -17:00 there are usually 1-2 boats per hour, the exact timetable can be found here.  Enjoy the river ride!

Enoshima Aquarium, Best Living Japan5. Take a day trip to Enoshima beach, aquarium, boat ride, caves and flower festival (Enoshima, Kanagawa-ken) – Grab your sandcastle tools, bathing suits and towels and head on the train to Enoshima (about 60-75 mins from Tokyo). Enoshima has a beautiful beach great for kids of all ages (no lifeguard until later July). It also has one of Enoshima beach and caves, Best Living Japanthe best aquariums in the Kanto area (Enoshima Aquarium), a beautiful island you can take a short boat ride to explore caves and hike to see amazing views, and the Flower Fest being held at the Enoshima Samuel Cocking Gardens on the Enoshima Island until June 12th, 2016.
