1. Enoshima Tenno-Sai, Kanagawa-ken (江ノ島天王祭 – 神輿海上渡御) – This is a fun festival to watch as men from different shrines carry a mikoshi (portable shrine) around town and then into the ocean waves of Endoshima Beach. After being carried in the sea, the mikoshi is safely returned to Yasaka Shrine.

3. Fuurin Matsuri 2015, Nishiarai, Adachi-ku – A fuurin means wind chime in Japanese. Summer is a time when Japanese families place glass, metal and ceramic fuurins in their gardens to hear the beautiful ting-a-lings of summer breezes. At the Adachi Nishiarai Daishi temple fuurin craft people from across Japan set up booths to sell their creations. There are thousands of fuurin on display and the sound is amazing if the breeze is blowing. Highly recommend the beautify of sight and sound.

5. 21-21 Design Sight ‘Motion Science’ Exhibit (Roppongi/Midtown) – This is great hands-on inside exhibit for summer vacation.  I am a huge fan of 21-21 Design Sight and visited the first day! The Motion Science exhibit is designed for all ages and is very interactive. The show is explained on the website as such: the Motion Science exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to touch and observe the power of expressions that “movements” bring about.  The exhibits are great, kids from 3 up IMG_9960_2will enjoy for 60-90 mins. See how air pressure makes garbage bags breath with life and balances balls. Learn how noisy ping pong balls can be in a  tower made of cardboard boxes. So many hands-on exhibits to learn the impact of motion.

The ‘Motion in Science’ exhibit will run all summer until September 29th, 2015.  Combine a trip to 21-21 Design Sight with a visit to the Suntory Museum in Mid-town.
