#1.  Earth Garden Winter 2016 – The Earth Garden Craft Fair takes place four times a year, but this weekend is Earth Garden Winter 2016Winter. The earthy folk of Tokyo converge on Yoyogi Park to enjoy discovering eco products, organic foods and music. There are over 200 booths that will be displaying products and services to this eco and crafty group. Very fun, and impossible to walk way empty-handed. There is also a good music line-up to keep you dancing and warm. Kids will definitely enjoy a few hours wandering the stalls with parents, Tokyo Winter Earth Day 2016this year there is also a special tent for baby and kids activities. Also, if you visit at night, the candle-lit stalls are very pretty to view.

Tokyo International Quilt Show, Tokyo Weekend - Family Activities#2.Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival – I grew up sewing and knitting, so I love crafty events such as this one. Even though I am not a quilter; I am planning on attending this event to inspire new ideas for projects. Each year has a theme – this year is the “The World of Peter Rabbit” the book series by Beatrix Potter, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.  If you are a quilter, fabric lover or have an aspiring quilter in your family, this is a fun show to attend. Not only a great show of quilts but suppliers and workshops as well. Happy Stitching.

#3. Ueno Museum Day Tokyo Ueno Musuems

Saturday, January 23rd is a free entry day to The National Museum of Western Art. The museum has a great collection of art from medieval through 20th Century, including but not limited to Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh,  Picasso, Pollock and much more. That is just one more reason to spend this Saturday in Ueno visiting three diverse family fun museums for a  few hours. Great for days when it is COLD outside. I would recommend visiting The National Museum of Western Art from 9:00 for 1-2 hours, then walk over and visit the National Museum of Nature and Science (renovated the summer of 2016 – dinosaurs and more) for 1-2 hours, and then visit the Shitamachi Museum (Tokyo history) 30-60 minutes.  If you want to get in some shopping, walk five mins from the Shitamachi Museum over to Ameyokocho.

The National Museum of Western Art (open 9:30 -17:30).

Every family has their own recipe and slightly different flavour, but it is a simple recipe to make that comforts all. Any type of meat can be used pork, beef or chicken.  I made a big batch this past weekend that the family enjoyed for dinner, midnight snack and breakfast. NikujagaSimple and economical
