March marks the beginning of Spring, the end of the Japanese school and business year, and anticipation for Cherry Blossoms. The following are some of our Top Recommended Activities & Events in Tokyo in March 2017. Get out and have fun!

1. Meguro Gajoen Hina Doll Exhibit  (Meguro) – Until March 12th –  Meguro Gajoen’s celebration of Hinamatsuri dolls is absolutely beautiful. Not only will the dolls impress you, but the rooms they are displayed in are very ornate.  My daughter and I visited the other day and had an beautiful time viewing dolls in a historical building. This year’s exhibit Meguro Gajoen Hinamatsuri, Tokyo Weekend Activitiesfeatures hinadolls from will highlight antique hinadolls from Tohoku district (northeast of Japan), including Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima.  Learn about Girls’ Day and the art of Hinamatsuri Dolls.

2. Visit Plum Blossom Festivals 🌸🌸🌸🌸

🌸Koishikawa Korakuen Plum Blossom FestivalTop 10 Things to do in Tokyo in March 2017 (Bunkyo-ku) – Until March 5 you can visit the park to see over 90 plum blossom trees in 30 varieties blossoming. This weekend there will be performances of traditional music and Edo street arts on Saturday (10:30 & 11:00) and Sunday (noon & 13:30).
Admission: 300 yen adults, free for children

🌸Setagaya Ume Plum Festival (Setagaya) – Until March 5 you can see a huge display of plum blossoms on 650 plum trees (270 red plum and 280 white plum). You can enjoy various activities this weekend including Japanese harp performances (Koto), tea ceremonies and rice pounding. Fun for the entire family!

3. Heiwajima Antique Show (Ota-ku) – A huge three-day inside antique fair.  Not to be missed. There are over 280 vendors that have a huge selection of Japanese, Asian and  western antiques. This show only happens a few times a year, and the good stuff sells quickly. Great show just in time for holiday shopping.

6. Peace On Earth 2017 (Hibiya Park, Hibiya) This free family-friendly music, food and beverage event is to commemorate the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011. There will be two full days of music, live events and many many food trucks.

Top 10 Things to do in Tokyo in March 20177. Visit the I Love Ireland Festival (Yoyogi) and The 25th Tokyo St. Patrick`s Day Parade (Omotesando) – This is Japan’s biggest St. Patrick`s Day Parade. Not to be missed on Sunday, March 19th from 13:00 -15:00 in Omotesando. Every year you can watch and participate in the parade in Omotesando. The Tokyo parade is organized by the Irish Network Japan (INJ). Don on your green, get out and celebrate. Before or after the Tokyo St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, check out the I Love Ireland Festival in Yoyogi Park.  This one-day event is free and a real kid pleaser. I personally believe one of the best Tokyo Family Activities this Spring.  Last year over 35,000 people attended and this year is expected to be even bigger. Check out the festival’s promo video from the 2015 festival for a good taste of the very green day! This year will be the 4th annual I Love Ireland Festival and an awesome day of fun, food and festivities.

10. Friday Nights at the Museums, Ueno – If you get too busy each weekend and never get to the museum’s or just need a nice date night, try Friday Night at the Museums in Ueno. This is a special spring program for the nights of Mar 10th, 17th & 31st, 2017.  The National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo National Museum, and National Museum of Nature and Science will all stay open until 20:00. Not only can you view the regular exhibitions but there will also be special concerts, talk shows and some gourmet events. All details can be checked here (Japanese language only).   If you want to combine your night at the museum with a lovely dinner, I highly recommend making reservations at Innsyoutei in Ueno Park.
