TELL_Runathon, Tokyo Family Weekend1. TELL Charity Walk and Run  (Tamagawa, Tokyo) – It not too late to run for a great cause – the 16th edition of the TELL Charity Walk and Run on Saturday, May 28, 2016.  The charity walk and run takes place at the Tama River (Tamagawa) running course and comprises a 10-kilometer run, 5-kilometer run, 5-kilometer walk, and 5-kilometer run for children. The theme of this years  TELL Charity Walk and Run is ‘Stand Up! Don’t Stand By’ to raise further awareness to this important issue and help prevent bullying in our society through education and awareness.

Cost: ¥3,500 (adult), ¥2,500 (6-12 yrs old).
Check in for race: Registration will take place at the Furuichiba Track and Field Stadium, accessible via Kashimada Station (Nambu line); Shin-Kawasaki Station (Yokosuka line); Yaguchinowatashi Station (Tokyu Tamagawa line). The event finishes at midday, and proceeds rain or shine.

Clam Digging Tokyo, Bestlivingjapan2. Clam Digging (around Tokyo Bay) – May and June are the most popular months of the year to go clam digging「潮干狩りshiohigari 」in Japan. I went clam digging in Egawakaikan Shiohigarijo in Kisarazu, Chiba and we had a blast. It took about one hour for each member to dig about 2 Kilos of Asari clams (Japanese littleneck clams). 3. Laos Festival (Yoyogi/Harajuku) – Visit the Laos Festival this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) to learn about Laos culture, food and Laos Festival Yoyogi Park, Tokyo Family Weekend, Best Living Japantravel. I attended with the kids last year and we really enjoyed our first Laos cuisine and entertainment.  It is expected that over 150,000 people will attend the Laos Festival so be ready to party. So many Yoyogi Park events this summer to feature in the Tokyo Family Weekend highlights. Check back each Thursday night.

Jamaican festival Tokyo, Tokyo Family Weekend, Best Living Japan4. One Love Jamaican Festival (Odaiba) – What is the One Love Jamaica Festival!? The One Love Jamaica Festival is a yearly event held in Tokyo Japan which promotes the relationship between Jamaica and Japan. The festival explores the deep-rooted history in the Japanese’s love for Reggae music that originated in Jamaica. The festival includes food booths, live performances, and cultural booths among other activities. This year’s event will celebrate the life of the ‘Reggae God’ Bob Marley under the theme- ‘Celebrating 70 years of Bob’. Enjoy some awesome music, food to queue for and summer drinks. A great family outing.

Fireflies in Yokohama5. Firefly Evening in Yokohama (Sankeien Garden) – Sankeien is a beautiful garden any time of the year, however, from this weekend until June 5th the garden will stay open until late so visitors can see the Fireflies dancing around the garden and pond. The garden will be dark so be careful when walking. The garden management also asks that visitors do not use their flashes nor portable phones to create light since this will be a nuisance for other visitors. Also do not try to catch the fireflies since they will only live one week and everyone would like to enjoy it. Have a fun Tokyo Family Weekend in Yokohama.

Midtown Roppongi park, Tokyo Family Weekend6. This the last weekend to enjoy Open the Park TOKYO MIDTOWN (Roppongi) – Although the temps will fall a bit this weekend, it should be dry enough to bring a blanket and enjoy a relaxing picnic in the park. Order a take out egg sandwich from the Hal Yamashita restaurant on the 1st floor of Midtown and gather up salad and desserts in the food area in B1 to enjoy.  Right next to the Midtown park is Hinokicho playground which has some climbing equipment and fun walkways for little ones.

7.  Last weekend for Oktoberfest in Hibiya Park (Hibiya) – The annual two week Hibiya Park Oktoberfest held Hibiya Oktober festeach spring will end on Sunday, May 29th. Parents can enjoy the beverages while little ones enjoy the sausages pretzels, and dancing. Hibiya Park also is filled with beautiful roses this time of year so visiting the oldest Western desgined garden in Japan.

Enjoy authentic German dances, performances, food and beer.
