Here are our recommended Tokyo Area Family Weekend Activities for July 23 & 24, 2016. Japanese schools are now officially out for summer break so attractions and events will be more crowded the next seven weeks. Plan ahead and stay cool. This weekend the first Tokyo fireworks will take place in Adachi-ku. There are also many local festivals, as well as, the annual HandMade Fes in Bigsight. Get ready for a hot, but fun and creative weekend. Tokyo weekend July 23 & 24, 2016, Best Living Japan.com1. HandMade in Japan Fes 2016 (Ariake) (ハンドメイドインジャパンフェス) – If you are crafty, or just love to admire crafts you should attend HandMade in Japan Fes this weekend. Also a great way to avoid the heat. Over 4,000 creators will present their works of art, music and food for view and purchase. Great place to source materials, learn new techniques and gain inspiration. There are over 30 workshops you can participate in to learn a new craft.  I love attending, and always walk away with enough project to keep me busy all year.

Event Dates: July 23 (Saturday) – July 24 (Sunday), 2016; 11:00 – 19:00
Cost: Day ticket 1,500 JPY (1 day ticket) / 2,500 JPY (both days tickets), Elementary school or less free

Tokyo weekend July 23 & 24, 2016, Best Living Japan.com2. The Adachi Fireworks (足立の花火) -This year will be the 38th Adachi Fireworks although the first event was held in 1924. It is usually well attended since it is the first major fireworks festival of the summer. The fireworks are shot up from two locations along the Arakawa River. According to locals, the best place to view is on the Nishi-Arai side.

“Mita Whole Town Noryo Carnival”. The carnival is sponsored by the Mita Shotengai Promotion Association and Keio Naka Dori Shotenkai. You can enjoy a samba parade, live music, food, drink and games.

5. The 5th World Gourmet & Music Festival in Yoyogi Park 2016  (第5回ワールドグルメ&ミュージックフェスタ in 代々木公園2016) –   This is the place to be this weekend if you need a good lunch and want to listen to some live music. If the weather is nice and you are biking or strolling around Yoyogi than a good choice.
