TELL Exceptional Parenting Program (EPP) – Depression in Teens, Jan 26th

TELL (Tokyo English Life Line) provides an Exceptional Parenting Program (EPP) workshop series each school year which support global parents on a wide-range of topics. The next program on Tuesday, January 26th (10:00 – 12:00) is about Depressions in Teens. Learn how to recognize signs, take steps to improve and prevent at the TELL program.

image1I have attended quite a few of the EPP programs over the past years and have found each one to be valuable to maintain some sanity in our crazy house!  The Exceptional Parenting Program, which runs from October to May, features six or more presentations by English speakers from a variety of disciplines and takes place at in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo.   The workshops are centered on providing insightful, practical information to increase awareness and understanding of various issues associated with raising and educating a child with learning differences/diverse needs. The workshops are free of charge, but donations are highly appreciated to support future EPP workshops.

Stressed…or Depressed? Signs, Risk Factors and Ways to Address Depression in Teens

Dr, Shruti Rane will present to help parents and educators understand the risk factors, symptoms, and ways to address depression and comorbid disorders (e.g. anxiety, eating disorders) in adolescents. The goal of the workshop is to create awareness regarding adolescent depression and discuss ways to help a depressed adolescent.  The program is free, but a 1,000 yen donation is suggested.  Also best to RSVP to Jill Joroff at excep.parents@telljp.com

About the presenter – Born and raised in India, pediatric neuropsychologist Dr, Shruti Rane is the latest addition to the TELL Counseling team. Shruti started studying Japanese language in high school and has been passionate about the Japanese language and culture ever since.  Shruti worked at the Kennedy Krieger Institute as a pediatric neuropsychologist before moving to Japan, and is licensed in Maryland. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, and was awarded her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston. She sees children for evaluation with a variety of developmental and neurological conditions.

The Exceptional Parenting Program (EPP) provides a forum where parents and professionals can broaden their knowledge of issues related to raising and educating children with diverse needs, seek and exchange information in a supportive atmosphere, and access a lending library of books, magazines and recorded presentations.




searchTELL is dedicated to increasing the accessibility of our programs so that more families and professionals can benefit from the resources that are available in the community.  In light of this, TELL now provides Exceptional Parenting Program (EPP) workshops in three different formats shown above, whenever possible, and with the agreement from the individual speaker.

Live on-site

Usually held in the Wesley Center seminar room.

  • The participants are in the room with the speaker;
  • The participants have the opportunity to engage in real-time Q&As with the speaker;
  • The participants have the opportunities to speak directly with the speaker after the workshop.

Live off-site

Whenever possible and with IT permitting, the workshops will be broadcast live in selected locations in Japan (outside of Tokyo).

  • The viewers have the opportunities to access EPP workshop in real time without traveling to Tokyo;
  • The viewers have the opportunity to participate in real-time Q&A with the speaker via the broadcast screen;
  • There is no guarantee that every EPP workshop will be broadcast live outside of the seminar room
  • Both the organizer and the viewers may experience unexpected IT failure.

Online (after workshop)

Whenever possible and with IT permitting, the workshop will be recorded and will be available on the TELL website shortly after the workshop for 30 days.

  • The viewers have the opportunity to access a recording of the EPP workshop at their convenience from anywhere;
  • There is no guarantee that every EPP workshop will be recorded/archived;
  • Both the organizer and the viewers may experience unexpected IT failure.
