This three-day weekend offers super fun – October 8 & 9, 2016 Tokyo Weekend Family Activities. Monday, October 10th is Sports Day, a Japanese National Holiday. 27d1b051bab72e0138ab41c9ad9465a31. Minato-ku Citizens’ Festival 2016 (Shiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo) 
– This two-day festival in Shiba is an annual event that is especially fun to attend if you have young children or did not get enough festival food in the summer. The festival is spread out across the Shiba Park, Zojo-ji Temple, the Tokyo Prince Hotel ground, the Minato library park area near Onarimon Station, and the park in front of the Minato-ku City Hall. Your kids can enjoy a mini steam engine ride, enjoy a bouncy house and popular festival games in the Shiba Park area. In Zojo-ji, you can visit various government sponsored booths, enjoy Japanese music performances and exhibits of art. In the Tokyo Prince Hotel area, there is a World Promenade of food and alcohol, and near the library and town hall booths selling crafts and goods. There is also a parade on Sunday from noon to 13:30 that runs under the Daimon to Onarimon Station. A fun community event to attend for a few hours!

2. Daikanyama 2016 Sarugaku Festival (Daikanyama, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) – Enjoy your Sunday or Monday Sports Day at this lively local festival. This festival is very international sporting food booths with wine and cheese, and western desserts; workshops on table manners and how to make butter; as well as, fun crafts for the kids.  If that does not make you smile the medieval dressed musical band or dancing monkey may.

unknown3. Taste of Tokyo (Marunouchi, Hibiya and Yurakucho Areas) – Enjoy the third year of the Taste of Tokyo sponsored by The Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The event is organized to promote the amazing food of Tokyo, but also Japan’s  agricultural, forestry, and marine products. The Taste of Tokyo is spread out over three areas: Marunouchi, Yurakucho, and Hibiya. Marunouchi area will have food trucks and crafts, Yurakucho area will have stalls selling foods from across Japan, and in the Hibiya area, there will be local restaurants’ food trucks and events.

yokasoi4.  Tokyo Yosakoi (Ikebukuro, Tokyo)   Yosakoi is a unique style of dance that originated in Japan in 1954, as a modern rendition of Awa Odori, a traditional summer dance. Yosakoi-style dancing has spread throughout much of Japan. The style of dance is highly energetic, combining traditional Japanese dance movements with modern music. This Saturday and Sunday you can see a huge competition of over 100 dance teams challenging to be crowded the best Yosakoi dance troupe. It is a huge festival with bright colors, loud music, and incredible energy. Any age person will have a great time!

images5. Tsukiji Aki Fest 2016 (Tsukiji, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) – Any time of the year is a good time to visit, shop and eat at Tsukiji. However, this Saturday and Sunday is extra special with the annual Tsukiji Aki Fest. The festival takes place in the outer market around the Shijobashi crossing.  Many stores and restaurants will have booths selling their special food and also offering some cooking workshops.  Next years Aki Fest will be out in the new market area in Toyosu, so enjoy this weekend in Tsukiji. Bonus: College Women’s Association of Japan Print Show: CWAJ will hold Intimate Dimensions, a special print exhibition and sale at the Frederick Harris Gallery, Tokyo American Club, from September 27 to October 16, 2016.

This special exhibition features 80 contemporary Japanese prints by 35 acclaimed artists, ranging from 24-year-old Printmaker Award winner Hiroyuki Omori to the 103-year-old abstract calligrapher Toko Shinoda. Their works encompass a wide range of styles, themes and techniques such as woodblock, etching, lithograph and silkscreen.
All proceeds will go to CWAJ Scholarships and Fukushima Relief Projects.
