Fireflies in Yokohama3. Firefly Evening in Yokohama (Sankeien Garden) – Sankeien is a beautiful garden any time of the year, however, from this weekend until June 2nd the garden will stay open until late so visitors can see the Fireflies dancing around the garden and pond. The garden will be dark so be careful when walking. The garden management also asks that visitors do not use their flashes nor portable phones to create light since this will be a nuisance for other visitors. Also do not try to catch the fireflies since they will only live one week and everyone would like to enjoy it. Have a fun Tokyo Family Weekend in Yokohama.

Bunkyo Ajisai Matsuri 20165. Bunkyo Ajisai Matsuri 2017 (Hakusan, Bunkyo-ku) – The most magnificent display of Ajisai in Tokyo is at Hakusan Shrine. We attended last year and had a wonderful time viewing the flowers, listening to the live entertainment and painting a bag (kids craft). The Shrine has over 3,000 Ajisai plants which when in full bloom are a sea of blue. Hakusan Shrine is also one of the most important shrines in Tokyo having Bunko ku ajisai festivalbeen built in the 8th century to pray for a remedy for smallpox. The path leading up to the shrine is very charming with many small food booths and stone lanterns. The shrine is now a designated Important Cultural Property by the Metropolitan Government of Tokyo. Even if your kids are not big fans of flower viewing, they will be impressed by the sheer number!
