3. This is the last weekend to visit the Bunkyo Ajisai Matsuri (Hakusan, Bunkyo-ku) and the Meiji Jingu Irises

Bunkyo Ajisai Matsuri 2017 (Hakusan, Bunkyo-ku) – The most magnificent display of Ajisai in Tokyo is at Hakusan Shrine. We attended last year and had a wonderful time viewing the flowers, listening to the live entertainment and painting a bag (kids craft). The Shrine has over 3,000 Ajisai plants which when in full bloom are a sea of blue. Hakusan Shrine is also one of the most important shrines in Tokyo having June 17 & 18, 2017 Tokyo Weekend Family Events and Activities Bunko ku ajisai festivalbeen built in the 8th century to pray for a remedy for smallpox. The path leading up to the shrine is very charming with many small food booths and stone lanterns. The shrine is now a designated Important Cultural Property by the Metropolitan Government of Tokyo. Even if your kids are not big fans of flower viewing, they will be impressed by the sheer number!

June 17 & 18, 2017 Tokyo Weekend Family Events and ActivitiesMeiji Jingu Irises in the Inner Garden – June is a wonderful month to enjoy Tokyo Iries in full blooms. Check out the beautiful garden at Meiji Jingu near Harajuku station. There are about 150 different types of Iris in the “Iris Garden”. Their blossoms are counted daily by the staff. Current count 1500 Iris plants. It does crowded so I recommend going early. If you want to see Irises and also escape into a nature sanctuary you can also visit the Shirogane Nature Park which is also in full bloom. Enjoy!
