Tokyo One Day Itinerary: Ebisu Area with Kids

We love this quiet, residential area in Shibuya-ku. We often often spend our day in the Ebisu Station West Exit area then walk towards Daikanyama or the East Exit towards Ebisu Garden Place.

Crossroad Bakery, Ebisu, Tokyo, Breakfast in Tokyo

Crossroad Bakery is a great place to start the day – one of our favorites on our list of early open Tokyo breakfast spots. It checks all the boxes; open early, great croissants and buns, breakfast all day, free-wifi and good coffee – also very child-friendly. You can enjoy an onsite freshly baked muffin, order a meal or both. A short walk from Ebisu Station West Exit. Open every day 8:00 – 23:00.

Ebisu Park is a local park located a short 4 minute walk from Crossroad Bakery. This sand park has plenty of space to run around, colorful equipment, public toilets, drink vending machines and shaded bench seating to relax while the kids play.

A great lunch option is Kichiri Ebisu – a stylish, baby & kid-friendly restaurant with a large playroom – also doubles as a great dining and terrace BBQ spot. The atmosphere is zen-like with floor level tables and sunken seating for your legs. They offer great lunch sets and easy kids` meals during the day and Japanese fusion with cocktails or BBQ at night.

Young kids love their playroom. It`s spacious with cushioned floors, ball pit and large cushions to climb on or build. Separate nursing area, baby chairs and diaper changing table available. A great spot to lunch with baby & kids. Reservations Recommended. Open Everyday 11:00 – 15:00 and 17:00 – 02:00.

Ebisu Food CourtThe Ebisu Food Hall is another great family-friendly spot to lunch. The designers wanted to create a space which had a New York style food hall feel – on a Japanese size level they have accomplished that.  The 117 seat eat-in space has four counters Bakery, Gourmet Salad, Bar & Meat and Coffee. There is also a covered outdoor sitting area in the back of the restaurant. Open Everyday 8:00 – 23:00.

Our kids love Ouca Ice for a late afternoon snack. Ouca Ice is amazingly light and refreshing. Their signature flavors include milk, pumpkin, tomato, black sugar banana, ground soybean powder and green tea. However, if you prefer something a bit more standard, you can also find strawberry and kiwi which are amongst my favorites. If you buy in the store, you can mix three flavors in one cup and enjoy! Summer hours: March – October 11:00 – 23:00; Winter hours November – February 12:00 – 23:00.

The Ebisu Garden Place

The Garden Place is a 5 minute walk from Ebisu Station using the Yebisu (Ebisu) Skywalk – a covered moving walkway that connects Ebisu Station with the Garden Place. It houses the Tokyo Photographic Museum, Ebisu Garden Place Cinema, and seasonal events in the plaza including the Marche Ebisu farmers market which takes place every Sunday 11:00 – 17:00.

Kageoka Playground is a great outdoor spot to let your active kids burn off some energy. It`s located across the street from the Ebisu Garden Place and next to the Shibuya-ku Ebisu branch Fire Department. Kids will get a work out climbing the structure and might even get to see a fire truck or two.

The Mitsukoshi Department Store Kodomo Park is a fun play area for toddlers with comfortable nursing and diaper changing rooms nearby. My kids love browsing through the toy section then train spotting. Train spotting is located on the B1 level between the Mitsukoshi Department Store and Yebisu Sky Walk / directly below the Blue Seal Okinawan Ice Cream Shop. On nice weather days kids can spot trains from overhead on the bridge outdoors. Mitsukoshi Hours: 11:00 – 20:00 Daily.

Saru Shirogane, TokyoSaru is a good dinner option. Saru sources their food from all over Japan to ensure they are honoring the four seasons and the natural bounty that Japanese farmers and fisherman harvest. Sara has personal relationships with the farmers they source from and has pictures of the farmers in the restaurant. The taste and prices at Saru are a great combination; most entrees run between 1,800 – 2,000 yen and appetizers are typically 900 yen. Although the food is local, most of the wine menu is from Europe.

Another family-friendly option is to head back to Kichiri for dinner or their BBQ night on their terrace. They offer courses to take the stress out of ordering and a la carte options. Menu in English and Japanese. Reservations Recommended. Open Everyday 11:00 – 15:00 and 17:00 – 2:00 am (Last Order at 1:00 am). Note playroom only open at lunch.
