2017 Tokyo Area Wading Pools and Splash Ponds –  It’s that time of year again — the sun is high, the days are long, and the kids are itching to cool down with outdoor water play. Most Tokyo area wading pools will open from July 1st this year, although there is one below that is already open on weekends.  Here is our list of outdoor wading pools & splash ponds that are infant and toddler-friendly, and will keep your kids cool and entertained this summer. Note that many do not allow baby diapers – when info was available it is noted below.  Remember your sunscreenmosquito repellant and to stay hydrated. Have fun!

Asakayama Koen, 2017 Tokyo Area Wading Pools and Splash Ponds#1.Asakayama Koen (Kita-ku) 

This park not only has a great water area but also has an old SL train and fun playground. Take a picnic and enjoy the day outside. The water in the park is 15 cms so good of little ones,  but note no diapers are allowed.

kumin center wading pools, 2017 Tokyo Area Wading Pools and Splash Ponds#2 Meguro Kumin Center Wading Pool (Meguro-ku) 

The Meguro Kumin Center wading pool is one of our favourite splash pools; clean and safe with plenty of space. There are two separate pools; one for kids aged 3 years and older and a toddler pool for those aged 3 years and younger. The Kumin Center Complex also houses a childrens` playroom, gymnasium, library and the Meguro Museum of Art. If you`re a museum lover we highly recommend you invest in the Grutt Pass. For 2000 yen, you can buy a passbook that gives you one-time free or discounted admission to 79 Tokyo museums, zoos, aquariums, etc. for two months from the date of first use.

Fees:  100 yen per child for the first 2 hours (Chaperone free); 70 yen each additional hour   *Swim diapers required

50m outdoor pool for children aged 3 years and up:

Fees: 200 yen for the first 2 hours; 150 yen each additional hour

INDOOR pool for adults and children aged 3 years and up.
Hours: All-Year. *Please call ahead as the pool may be reserved for classes.
Hours: Daily 9:00 – 22:00
Fees: Adults 400 yen for the first 2 hours; 300 yen each additional hour; Kids aged 3 years and up 200 yen for the first 2 hours; 150 yen each additional hour

Dates: July 1 – September 4, 2017
Hours: Wednesday – Sunday 10:00 – 16:00; Tuesdays from 10:00 – 12:00 noon only. Closed 12:oo – 13:00 for pool cleaning.
Fee: FREE!

This is a great splash pool to visit. They have a couple spray fountains, toys and a childrens` playground next door. Visit the Hamarikyu Garden Park while you`re in the area. It`s one of the largest and most diverse Japanese Garden Parks in central Tokyo.

Rinshi-no-Mori-Stream, 2017 Tokyo Area Wading Pools and Splash Ponds#4. Rinshi no Mori Park Stream (Shinagawa-ku)

Rinshi no Mori park is a cool and quiet, leafy park with a popular splash pond. Rinshi no Mori park has two playgrounds, one catered toward younger children and the other for older children; a small pond where a number of turtles and koi swim; large open spaces for children to run around and walking paths for dog walkers and insect hunters. A great spot to escape the summer heat. The depth of water is 15 cms.

**Swimming Diapers are allowed in the water.

Hours: Friday – Wednesday 9:00 – 15:00; Thursdays closed for cleaning.

wading pool - Komazawa Olympic Park Jabu Jabu Ike#5. Komazawa Olympic Park`s Jabu Jabu Pond (Setagaya-ku)

Komazawa Olympic Park is one of our favourite playground parks to spend the day. It has a cycling center, three animal-themed playgrounds, sports facilities, a cafeteria, a museum and shaded areas to have a nice picnic at the park. Their water play area is especially popular in summer. It occupies a large area without trees or shade so remember your sunscreen, drinking water and take breaks as the summer sun in Japan can be quite unforgiving.

Shinjuku Chuo Park, Tokyo wading pools, 2017 Tokyo Area Wading Pools and Splash Ponds#6. Shinjuku Chuo Park (Shinjuku-ku)

Located in West Shinjuku lies the Shinjuku Chuo wading pool – a nice spot to cool off from the hot summer sun. Shinjuku Chuo Park is great spot to relax from the hustle and bustle of West Shinjuku. There is plenty of seating areas, a playground and some manmade stone waterfalls in the park.
Water depth is 5- 30 cms. Best for babies, toddlers and 1-3 elementary.

**Swimming Diapers are allowed in the water.

#7. Toneri Koen (Adachi-ku)

Located in West Shinjuku lies the Shinjuku Chuo wading pool – a nice spot to cool off from the hot summer sun. Shinjuku Chuo Park is great spot to relax from the hustle and bustle of West Shinjuku. There is plenty of seating areas, a playground and some manmade stone waterfalls in the park.

Kodomo no Kuni jabu jabu, 2017 Tokyo Area Wading Pools and Splash Ponds#8.  Kodomo no Kuni (Yokohama)

Kodomo no Kuni is a kids` paradise. It`s a 250 acre park with numerous activities (rides, playgrounds, animals, etc) and facilities that every kid will enjoy. The Rock River is a family favourite in summer. Open from March to mid-October it`s a great spot to cool off.

Kodomo no Kuni wading poolsKodomo no kuni also has two pools that are open from July 16 – Aug 30; Thursday – Tuesday 10:00- 16:00; Closed on Wednesday. There is a shallow wading pool for young kids and a 1m deep pool for older kids, 2 water slides, 2 tube slides and a large covered area to eat and rest from the hot sun. Adults 1100 yen; Jr HS and elementary 450 yen; kids 3-5 yrs 350 yen. Water area is depths of 15 – 130 cms.

#9. Ukima Koen (Adachi-ku) 

Located in the lovely park of Ukima. Close to a good playground that is super popular with local kids!
Water depth is 20 cms. Best for toddlers and early elementary.

Komatsugawa-Sakaigawa Shinsui Koen, 2017 Tokyo Area Wading Pools and Splash Ponds #10. Komatsugawa-Sakaigawa Shinsui Koen 小松川境川親水公園 (Edogawa-ku) 

Great park in Kita-ku where you can spend the entire day. The water play area is surrounded by a park with carious play structure, fun walking paths and plenty of nature. To access this park you need to take a bus from the closest train station but it is worth it for a day trip!

2017 Tokyo Area Wading Pools and Splash Ponds#11. Kiba Shinsui Koen 木場親水公園 (Koto-ku) 

A long narrow play area which has water 10-20 cms deep. Kids can enjoy running around amongst the squirting water. There is no sun covering so remember hats. The water also gets quite hot in Aug but there are showers to cool down. **Diapers not allowed
